i was broadsided by some guy last wednesday, and I got kinda hurt, he screwede up my car, it had to be towed, his insurance company totaled it and valued it at 1,007.00 dollars. I had to pay 400 to get the rear struts replaced, a fuel line fixed, exhaust pipe leak fixed, and I need new headers. If anyone could help me out with websites that can help me price my car, i would really appreciate it.

thanks,
Sarah

Sarah, so sorry about your accident and injuries. I would try www.nadaguides.com for a value of your Elky.

Best of luck and get yourself healed soon. You can always get another Elky, but it's sure tough to replace you.

BIG ADVICE!!! 8O Don't take the first quote the insurance gives you. I did that with my accident and, later, found out I could have gotten more if I would have waited. Keep in mind that they will try to tell you all of the $$$ you put into it to keep it running is just your loss. Don't take that from them! Talk to an REPUTABLE attorney and get the most you can.

www.collectorcartraderonline.com

do a search on other elcamino's of similar years (say 78-83) and print off the ad's with prices- This will be your best ammo as to what the value of the car should be...

Do you have pictures of what it was like before the accident? Those will also go a long ways to showing the condition before hand.

Sorry to hear about the accident- that always sucks. :(

Was the car in fact totaled, was the frame bent or cracked? If not, get 3 written estimates from body shops for repairs using OEM parts if available. Get a lawyer and take them to court. If you have pictures of the vehicle before the accident this will help your case if the car was in good or better condition. The insurance company is trying to get you to settle at a low price. $1007 for an El Camino is not realistic unless the vehicle was in poor condition to begin with. Remember insurance companies (yours or his) are not your friend, they are in business to make money not give it away. Your state, more than likely requires liability insurance. Your state should also have an insurance board that regulates insurance companys that do business in your state. Contact the board to see what legal recourse you can take concerning this.

Hi Sara. Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you were not hurt to bad.
I know you will get a lot of advise, but one thing I'm concerned with was when you said "his insurance company totaled it". I'm not sure if you have dealt with the insurance company's here in MA., but it is not up to the other guys insurance company to total or not to total.
The auto body shop should be fighting for your rights. If they quickly "totaled" your elky, then get a second opinion.
Plus, contact your insurance agent and tell them to fight for you and your rights. That is what you pay them for.
Another question. Your Elky is 23 years old. Did you have classic car insurance or regular auto insurance?
One last suggestion, get in touch with John Harris who is the region 2 NECOA director, and or Ernie G. Both are very knowledgable and may be able to offer some good advise. John is in MA. and Ernie is in RI. I can get you their email address's if you like.

Best of luck and get well soon.

P.S. If you were physically hurt and if the other driver was cited for being at fault, get your self a good PI lawyer. Many will argue, but you can bet the insurance company have plenty of lawyers on staff and no one of us is a good match for the pro's.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone who replied to my post, the suggestions and advice are both excellant. My mechanic fixed my car for me, the guy had broke the rear strut supporting the rear end. It cost about 400.00 dollars to fix it. I went online and got prices from nada and some others and I also went to web sites with el camino classifieds and printed those out to give to the insurance company and my lawyer. His insurance company told me and my mom that if I could find prices higher that what they got, and other proof that the car is worth more, they would give more money.
Now they are saying i have to buy the car back from them for like 100.00 dollars. It's just not fair. I am hoping that my work will do some good. I also only had plain auto insurance on it, I was planning on getting antique auto coverage as soon as I fixed a few things. I will keep ya posted on what happens next.
Thanks a lot for all your help, I really appreciate it! :)
