Are 1972 and 1973 Elky Frames interchangable of close enought to fit with slight modification.
I recently bought a 72 elcamino for $ 400 body is very solid but frame is rotted at steering box making the steering very sloppy. I can aquire a 73 elky with a good frame rather cheaply (to part and only keep frame) but am having trouble finding a 72 frame. does anyone have one in the NJ DE PA area that they are selling.
Does anyone know if a 73 frame will fit a 72 or is colse enough to a 72 to fit with slight modification.
Thanks

Probably not. 72 was the last of the non 5 mph bumpers. The 73 frame will have mounting provisions for the front bumper energy absorber shocks. I think 74 and up will also have them on the rear.

70-72 should fit, and possibly 68-72 but not sure.

Ya but cant you cut that part out and replace it with the one off of the old 72 frame. Im more concerned about the boudy mounting locations, and the rear end.
Thanks.

It's longer, wider and heavier. I think it would entail more than "slight" modification....

Thanks Everyone.
Does anyone have a frame for a 72 for sale

If you just need to fix the part of the frame that the steering box bolts to, there are many junkyards out in the dry western states (AZ, NM, etc.) that will cut just about anything off the cars in their yard and send it to you. Cut yours back to where the metal is good and weld in a solid piece from a donor car.

Found this frame on Team Chevelle:

It wouldn't be as cost efficient as Dave's idea but it's an option

I had already saw that online and determined that 2,150 miles was way too far to traver to pick that up. Thanks for looking tho
