Remember that the colors you like Silver/maroon are the two hardest colors to care for. Silver/maroon "fade faster" from the sun than any other two colors. (Silver metallic reflects on its own paint, and the pigment in red's (which maroon is) fades from the sun very easy.)
Silver/Black not as bad, but the black shows everything. If the car is not exposed all the time to outside hard summers and you keep the paint well cared for, both colors would be very nice.
The Silver and Black sound like a nice combination

Hi, For what is worth my '75 was blue and silver looked good. But with 2 tone paint schemes you need to keep the mouldings. I removed mine and painted it candy apple red with silver and gold bases. I kept a two tone paint idea but used the bases to create the different colors ie gold base is brighter and silver is deeper red.
As stated in former responses the colors are nice. But keep in mind that if any thing damage wise would ever happen all colors other than black can be difficult to match. especially silver. Black in most manufacturers is coded 99 silver on the other hand has many variations(codes).
If I had to choose I would go with Black and silver they just look good on an El Camino.

The 1977 El Camino (GMC Sprint) that I purchased brand new was Firethorne with a beige interior. It looked great. (Firethorn is a metalic maroon)

I think a larger cars look best a dark color. I had a all black 77 Chevelle once. I don't think it would have looked better other color. Of course, keeping it clean is a bear.

Maroon and Silver, My school colors.
But I would still go with the Black and Silver. If you read Sci-Fi at all,
The colors of Corwin from the Amber Chronicles.

?!?!?!
You don't have to stick with the two tone scheme. Even if yoou do decide to keep the two tone trim. I have the two tone trim and tri color paint.

Why not stick with the original two tone paint scheme that your Elky had in '77? I think there's a lot to be said for sticking with the stock colors that your vehicle came with. I've got an '81 Conquista, and while the two colors that are on it would not have been my first choice, when I re-paint it will be in those two colors.
For those of us that lived it ( and can still remember back that far) - 1977 was great year!

My 77 Chevelle was black on black from the factory. I wish I had not totalled it!
