Hey all.

i was hoping and am sure that someone will be able to help me out here, i have absolutely no knowledge of mechanics but i like my elky.
about 1 month ago i was driving down the road when my breaks decided to fail.... not a fun moment, luckily the emergency break worked and i did not kill myself or the elky. now a freind of mine who works at a shop looked at it and said that my master cylinder was shot and needed to be replaced. that was no problem found one at Napa and took care of that.

but at the same time he told me that my whole front end was about to go things like my centre link and other words i do not remember ( again back to the mechanical skills i do not have) but more or less everything around the center link.

i have found a 75 malibu for sale in my town for 500$ and was wondering if i bought it could i take all that stuff from it and put it into my '75 elky?? i was pretty sure but wanted to be 100% before i commit to this guy... any help be be great.
thanks
RH

8) He is talking about things like center link, inner and outer tie rod ends, idler arm, uper and lower ball joints and upper and lower control arm bushings. These are parts you DO NOT want to to replace with used, probably already worn out parts. This is a safety issue. The parts themselves are not that expensive and once replaced require the front end to be professionally aligned.

Depends what all you need because you can replace all the parts needed for alot less then $500. This would include both upper and lower ball joints, both inner and outter tie rods, idler arm, and centerlink. You can rent all the tools needed from autozone. If you need the controll arm bushings any machine shop will press them on for you, and all this will still cost less then $500 and be new.

Yeah you could but WHY?! Used front end parts from a donor car over 30 years old can't be a good idea. New front end parts can't cost $500. What could you need? Upper and lower ball joints on both sides, inner and outer tie rods on both sides, center link, and idler arm, and sway bar links, and upper control arm bushings and chances are you don't need all of these right now. Most common would be idler arm and one or two ball joints and maybe upper control arm bushings. You could do most of it yourself even with limited mechanical ability.
Unless you're just using the donor idea as a way to sneak another project car passed the wife! In that case disregard everything!
