Hi, I am trying to find out what exactly is needed and what years the parts are from To add S-10 front spindles and brakes to my 87 elcy. I have read most of the posts and none lay it all out. Is the ride height the sane or do the spindles lower it ?

One thing to think about if you are wanting to use the spindles that have the hub on them (without the rotor): the bearings are no longer avaliable. The few people that have them are charging a nice chunk of change for them.

I am looking at changing to newer spindles and brakes 2002-2006 not the older ones.

I just finished this install on my 1987 SS this summer/fall. I got a pair of S-10 Extreme spindles, rotors & calipers from a 2004 with low mileage. Make sure to get the S-10 Extreme ones, Some Blazer ones will work as well but I do not know the correct ones for this. Do not use the 4 wheel drive ones. Also check to make sure they are the dual piston calipers, most of the S-10's that did not have the Extreme option used single piston calipers and a different spindle to mount them. Only thing I added was a pair of Hawk high performance pads and Russell braided brake lines - the 1987 El Camino/Monte Carlo lines fit the factory lines and the S-10 calipers. If you have an earlier year you may need an adapter to get the late style brake lines to fit your hard lines. They fit right on the stock ball joints, but while I was at it I replaced all of the 20 year old suspension parts and added the Speedway Performance tubular upper A arms. It was noted in an earlier post that the bearings for these spindles are discontinued. I have seen the bearing/hub assembly available online, not sure if the factory ones are still being produced, but since these parts are so new they should not be discontinued. (it is a sealed bearing and not cheap to replace) I removed the ABS sensors and filled the hole with a small plastic plate with a hole drilled in it to accept the retaining bolt. Now that I finally got them bled correctly and the front end aligned, I was able to drive it the last 2 weekends, and what a great ride and braking improvement! The stock brakes were in good condition, but with these new brakes and pads it just stops like nothing! I can lock them up with ease and they have great pressure and stopping power. I have not used them hard, just broke them in, but have not noticed any fade or problems now!
Let me know if you have any other questions.
