My Elky has been on the road about 2 months since the engine swap. I added a set of aftermarket gauges that included a voltmeter. The voltmeter would bounce around like the needle was shaking after the car warmed up. At night I could tell the headlights were flickering a little too when I hit a bump in the road. After much head scratching, I started checking grounds. I had a good ground from the battery to the alternator bracket, a good ground strap from the engine to the firewall, a good ground strap from the blower motor to the passenger fender, and a good ground strap that came from inside the car to the firewall. I checked the voltage between the negative battery terminal and the chassis with the engine running at idle and I measured 1 volt! I was missing the ground from the battery to the chassis! I added a 12 gauge wire between the negative battery terminal and the chassis and now all is well. My voltmeter does not dance with the blinkers anymore, my headlights are brighter, and my wipers don't slow down when the A/C is on.

Glad to hear you found the pesky missing ground. It sure is easy to not get all of them back on after a engine swap or just minor changes. Checking all the ground connections for clean, mechanically sound mounting goes a long way to low loss. Again glad all is well now. John H

Thanks... I had changed my battery cables and the new one did not have the braid coming out of the lug. I knew I needed one, my '81 Camaro has one, but I just didn't do it...
