Hi all! My Name is Scott. I'm new here, in search for some answers. My grandfather has a 64 el camino, mechanically sound, runs and drives, and is in pretty decent shape. He is interested in selling it. He says its a 64SS. I'm not sure this is correct, but cant find a lot of info on the VIN. 65-up the 133 code is for the deluxe. I'm thinking this is what he has. Either way it has a trim package iv not seen on others. This makes me wonder. Also he is looking to sell it and is not really worried about the price, just as its reasonable to fair for the make and model. I have pics if someone can help! Thanks, Scott..... dkcon05@yahoo.com

Hi Scott, I am not positive but think the ElCamino SS did not arrive until 68. Also you may get more of a responce if you list this in "messages for new forum members" or "general bs"

Scott- Canted is correct, the SS El Camino was not an option until 68. Prior to that the top of the line was the El Camino Custom, which was available with all the SS options. The most obvious clues are usually chrome trim around the rain gutters and interior options. If I remember correctly, in the first part of your vin, the second and third digits will denote whether it was standard (55 I think) or Custom (56, I know becuase mine is.) There are many places on the internet that can decode your whole vin, I think there's something here on our site, and I know one exists on www.chevelles.com. That combined with the info from your data plate on the upper left firewall can tell you a lot about the original configuration of your car, colors, options, etc. Of course the best is the pro-tecto plate, which can sometimes be found in the seats, under the carpet, or on top of the gas tank. These are rare now, as most cars have been worked on enough that those papers are long since gone.
hope this helps,
Devin

thanks for the help guys! I found some info on the VINs. Think your right on the 68s. But this elk does have all the chrome on the back. Anyway Thanks! So this car just sits in the back all the time. He wants to get rid of it, and ask me to find out a good price. He has been offered $5000. several times. He wants to know if this good or will he be cheating himself to let it go for that. Any help on the value of the el caminos would greatly be appreciated.
