: PST tie rod ends/ball joints... any good???

I've used their polygraphite bushings before, but I usually just get Moog ball joints and tie rod ends. I was thinking about buying one of the PST front end kits thought to save time, and maybe a little money. Would I be better off just getting all the parts seperately, or can the PST front end kits be trusted?

thanks...

We just finished installing the P.S.T. Super Polygraphite kit on my son's Elky. The kit was complete with every part to rebuild the front end except the center link witch we also purchased from P.S.T. with at 10% discount.

I have no issue with the quality of the parts and assembly was easy and straight forward however compressing the springs was a real challenge since neither the internal or external spring compressors would work for me. When finished, the Elky only has a slight pull to the right (by matching the dimensions of the tie rods) but a $50.00 alignment corrected that as well as reset the caster and camber to spec.

We have one issue with a "bump" noise from the driver's side which we think are spring isolators or sway bar issues. I should know more on that today.

I bought the "Super Front End Kit " six years ago and have had no problems whatsoever. I also bought their front and rear replacement springs along with a front sway bar, added Edelbrock IAS shocks. My Elky rides, handles and corners great.

I have an '86 305 and did the following:

New 15" rubber
PST Super front end kit
Moog center link
Eibach Pro Kit Springs all around
Edelbrock IAS Performer shocks all around
Coil Isolators
Hotchkiss sways front and rear

Handles extremely well with no floating over bumps or lean in corners. Really can't compare it to the worn out stock components as there is no comparison.

The whole bill for the super front end kit and the center link was $450 from PST. The shocks and springs, from Summit, were about $550. All told he has about $1,200 in it including labor but excluding tires.

I don't understand why you would have had a problem with an inside spring compressor. I put Moog 5208s on our '83 Malibu wagon just over a year ago and while they were danged hard to compress, the compressor fit fine inside the springs and I had no trouble getting it out. Did have to put it as far to the ends of the springs as possible but that's normal.

Last summer, I removed the springs to cut them down a bit and again, had no trouble whatsoever with an inside compressor. This one has the swivel-mounted hooks at each end. Another one I have, has fixed cast iron hooks on the ends and the hooks not only were too thick, but protruded through the spring too much. And the chrome plating on the hooks made them slip a LOT. I finally decided trying to do the job with that thing was far too dangerous and not worth the risk.
