: Anyone using poly rear control arm bushings?

I'm about to order a poly front end kit, and rear control arm bushings, but I've a few people here and there say the poly could cause binding issues on the rear. I've never really studied the rear suspension that close to see exactly what might happen (guess I need to).

So, I was just curious if anyone was already running poly in the rear, and what issues if any you might have...

I have them on the front/rear of my Belvedere, and absolutely love the ride, but it has leaf springs out back...

I used the greasable bushngs from HR. These are 4 piece bushings: and aluminum shell with a grease fitting, a steel spacer and two poly bushings with grease flutes. There is absolutely no binding and the ride is smooth and quiet. Here is the website:Web Page Name (http://www.hrpartsandstuff.com/)

I had them in my '78, no issues.

Alrighty, sounds like it might just be a lube problem some people have with any poly. I'll be ordering the polygraphite from PST. They seem to be doing a great job all around on my Belvedere...

I've had poly rear bushings for years in mine haven't had any problems with binding or noise.. Install them correctly and lube them and you shouldn't have any issues.. I love mine!

On the rear arms it's not a problem of noise but an issue of binding.

The bushings are just too stiff to let the rear articulate properly.

The front arms have a similar problem but noise is a big issue with them.

It's not that poly isn't good for these locations. The problem is that the poly is too stiff for the bushing to work properly. The bushing is designed to flex. Poly bushings are too stiff and they have to rotate instead.

If they would soften the poly compund they would have a great product. The flexibility of rubber but with the durability of poly.

Good Question ... Why not a softer Poly, could have some fabric reinforcement to add toughness lost to softer material .

I have them on my 81 Malibu with no problems. I'm a bout to install a set on my 78 El Camino. Doug
