: Springs for my '77. 1" or 2" drop? BB/SB? Opinion

I'll be rebuilding the front end soon. I ordered a PST Super Poly front end kit, and I figure I'd better swap springs while its apart.

I like the 30 year old stance, but not the 30 year old ride. I'm going with poly bushings, already have KYB's up front and Addco bars front/back with poly bushings. I'll also be adding poly bushings in the rear, and eventually air bags inside the springs, and swapping the old air shocks for KYB's out back.

I currently run 235/60/15 up front and 275/60/15 out back with no intentions of changing tire size.

I want a nice firm ride. No floating, rolling, etc...

I really don't know how far the old springs have settled, or how far new OEM style springs would raise it, but I'm thinking about adding 2" lowering springs from OPGI. I currently run a small block with factory air, and have no intentions of changing that either, but I'm wondering how much stiffer would BB 2" drop springs be, and would that affect the height any?

I will eventually swap out the rear springs, but I'll probably just go with Moog heavy duty, but rear suspension (other than bushings) will have to wait till my bank account recovers from the front end kit, gears and posi that I'm about to do...

So, opinions please? Photos too... I've searched, and found a few pix, etc, but...

I have done the same install you are thinking of doing, ONLY differance
is I DO HAVE A BIG BLOCK. I used 2" drop with the KYB'S, the result =
I love it! The ride to me is perfect, handleing is great. The stance, well
let me put it this way >>> I'm OLD SCHOOL, born in the 50's and being
in my 50's I never out grew the "rake" look. One thing I might add is
I ordered the springs for an A/C equiped car, but I have removed all
the A/C equipment from it, so if you have A/C with a SBC, the weight
would be about the same as mine without. I would say it would ride
also about the same with the 2" drop for a BBC without A/C. Now
this is just my opinion, and every one has one. I know what I like,
and I like this.

Larry, I think you made up my mind on the height. I think the 2" drop is what I want. I too love the raked look. I added heavy duty +1" rear springs to my Belvedere to get the rake look there too. With it I'm VERY happy with the poly bushings, and KYB's and that is what I'm hoping to get my Camino to ride like... I also had an '04 Mustang GT before driving the Camino daily. It was lowered 1.5" with 275/40/17's & 315/35/17's. I Loved driving that car (especially with the 5-spd), but decided the car payments would be better applied to the Belvedere...

Now I guess I just need to decide if I want to go with BB or SB springs. I'm leaning more towards BB springs thinking they may be a little firmer...

BTW, did you get your springs from OPGI, and are you using poly bushings?

thanks!

The answer is yes to both your questions. In my opinion, I think you are
also leaning in the right direction with going with springs for BBC. I'm
confident you will be more than pleased with the ride / responce they
will afford you. If you do the swap yourself, I'd strongly suggest you
use an internal spring compressor to remove the old and install the new
springs. And be carefull! There is allot of force in a compressed spring.
Good luck, and let me know how you like the outcome when compleat.

Thanks for the advice. I decided to go with the BB springs...

I can't wait to get all this done. I won't recognize my Camino...

I've got the following on order...

Eaton Posi
3.73 gears
install kit
PST Polygraphite Super front end kit
PST Polygraphite rear control arm bushings
2" drop BB front coil springs

Oh, and a new windsheild washer pump :)

Next on the list will be rear springs/air bags/KYB's, then on to rear discs and rebuilding the fronts, then probably a new cam. Then I think she'll be set for a while, and I can go back and finish the Belvedere's top and interior, then start building a 327 for the Camino...

BTW, yes I do all the work myself... I've swapped out a few sets of springs on later models, but was wondering if I needed the internal spring compressors here, so thank again.
