I have an 81 with a airbag set up. i have narrowed down to either the edelbrocks or the bilstein rear shocks. Need some advice on which one to choose. Also Is the ride really that rough or is it extremelly stiff. when these are put on? I went to a firestone shop and the guy told me bilsteins are really rough. I had an 84 once and the ride was extremely rough. Handled great but rough. give me some input fellas.

I would go with Bilstien,Edelbrock is ok but they tend to get too soft quickly,What is your purpose for the car ??what will it be used for??

Then KYB should be good enuff,Im sorry if I didnt get back to you on the grille we cant seem to find a good enough fabricator with a fair price.. so the grilles are just on hold for know. But I think other people are making them know,im not for sure

Bilstiens give an exellent ride but for hauling a car i cant say I think a rear air shock should be used for hauling

I have air bags now. Here is the thing. I just picked up a grand national rear end. So basically im replacing everything back there ie shocks springs. Just want something that im gonna be happy with. I do want a smooth tight ride though and not a sloppy all over the place suspension.

You will be happy with bilstien shocks or even the cheaper kyb's but what you really want do do is pay attention to the suspension bushings stay away from poly urethane

I have air bags in the rear of my '84 with 2" lowered springs. Basically the air bags keep the lowered body from rubbing on the wide rear tires. I only use 8-10 lb pressure in the air bags, even with a few sacks of fertilizer or miscellaneous junk in the rear. I think the 35 lb max for the air bags would be adequate for carrying a heavy trailer tongue.
For some reason the local shop got me KYB GR2 shocks instead of KYB Gas Adjust. With the wider wheels and tires and lower, stiffer springs the car needs more damping. Next time I'll be more particular and insist on KYB Gas Adjust or Bilstein. Live and Learn. I've had the KYB Gas Adjust on a couple BMW's and the stiffness was not too harsh for daily driver.
