Can anyone tell me the length of a '68 El Camino airbag before installing it. I bought a new unused pair from someone, and I want to be sure they are right, they look short.

As I remember the early versions of the airbags, they were fairly short and were designed to be inserted into the spring and then inflated with their built in valve stem. I don't know how you'd find the length of 'em. The diameter was more important so they'd make firm contact with the springs.

Sounds like the pair I have, I put them in last night, and had to make my own line conectors, Wouldn't you know, I took my new shocks out of the box and I had two different shocks! right box number, but wrong shock!, I had to drive 45 miles to get a mate ! :(
