Last week my 82 Elky was rearended at an entrance ramp by a guy just not paying attention. Boy, it was a WHACK that surprised me and I got out of the car expecting the worst. At first look it seemed like there wasn't any damage. On closer inspection the 1999 Windstar put about a 20 inch wide, nicely contoured, indentation on the lower part of the bumper. It looks like a shadow and most non-fans wouldn't even notice it. But I am getting a new bumper (albeit aftermarket) and I can move up to a bumper that will accept the rubber strip and bumper guards and his insurance is covering it. Dealer says OEM bumper is not available. (This is a Pontiac dealer). The beauty of all this is that my current bumper, while pretty nice was losing some luster on the top and I was thinking about going to the bumper guards at some point.
I don't recommend you try this but it is nice that it is working out so well.
Just had KYD shocks put on all around today and after driving about 3 mile home from the shop they seem pretty nice. Will have a better impression tomorrow after a short trip to an upholstery shop to get a new custom tonneau cover made.
Moving right along to making this Elky a great vehicle.
