Last week my 82 Elky was rearended at an entrance ramp by a guy just not paying attention. Boy, it was a WHACK that surprised me and I got out of the car expecting the worst. At first look it seemed like there wasn't any damage. On closer inspection the 1999 Windstar put about a 20 inch wide, nicely contoured, indentation on the lower part of the bumper. It looks like a shadow and most non-fans wouldn't even notice it. But I am getting a new bumper (albeit aftermarket) and I can move up to a bumper that will accept the rubber strip and bumper guards and his insurance is covering it. Dealer says OEM bumper is not available. (This is a Pontiac dealer). The beauty of all this is that my current bumper, while pretty nice was losing some luster on the top and I was thinking about going to the bumper guards at some point.

I don't recommend you try this but it is nice that it is working out so well.

Just had KYD shocks put on all around today and after driving about 3 mile home from the shop they seem pretty nice. Will have a better impression tomorrow after a short trip to an upholstery shop to get a new custom tonneau cover made.

Moving right along to making this Elky a great vehicle.

All kidding aside, glad you're ok! Rear end hits can really screw you (personally) up!

87SS... :P Very good!

Also glad PA 82Elky and your '82 Elky are not to banged up. Those rear-ends can be very bad.

Thanks guys (I'm making an assumption here...) Feeling fine and no aftershocks.

Dealer body shop is getting the bumper from ---- The El Camino Store. Hope they are decent bumpers - at their prices they should be.

Also two new bumper shocks, and a little painting on flexible body filler behind the bumper.

Now waiting for parts to arrive.

i was rear ended twice by the same guy last year while driving my elky. like PA_82ELKY i got out expecting the worst. to my suprize no damage to the elky, but the guys midsize buick lesaber (sp? might have been a park avenue, not the small ones like a celebrity) had the grill and headlight busted out from him getting a grill full of my 2" reese hitch. :P serves him right maybe he will think twice before rear ending another elky.
