Hey everybody. I just saw where Dixiemontecarlo has quarter glass weatherstrips available now for 5th gens. Has anybody bought any or know anything about them. I bought me a pair tonight. They were $39.00 a pair + $9.00 s&h. I don't know how long they've been out but I'm glad to see they are now available. sccountryboy2004

They are probably the same ones that Ernie got from the El Camino Store. Look at the last post here:

Not quite as good as OEM but better then what people are asking for them on ebay.

Thanks Poltergeist for the link to the prior post on the weatherstrips. 87 ElCamino gave a great summarization of the weatherstips. He answered all the questions that I would have had. I know the quality of the reproduction weatherstrips aren't going to be as good as factory but it'll better than what I've got. sccountryboy2004

Well I got my Quarter glass weatherstrips in today and have to tell that I'm impressed. They were alot better than I thought they were going to be. The only major difference I saw was that the front end of the steel bead wasn't crimped over like the factory ones are, but I can fix that with a hammer. Other than that I don't think you would be able to tell that they aren't factory weaterstrips.
After reading 87ElCamino's article on them I am taking a couple of extra precautions when I put them on. I'm going to coat all exposed edges of the steel inner structure with a good coat of black rubberized sealer to seal them off from the moisture. Hopefully that will keep them from rusting so soon. I'll also take a small hammer and carefully tap the ends of the steel bead over just a little to closer match the factory bead. Other than that I think they will work great.
I hope to have a new coat of paint on my caballero in the next couple of weeks so I'll be posting new pictures soon.

OK a little more info...Makmonte (Mikes Montes) has reproductions on Ebay for $34.99+ shipping...reasonable price...yes! A particular individual (most of us old farts know...and I won't name) is now selling the same repops for $54.99+ shipping...his Ebay auction kind of makes you think your buying NOS if you don't read it carefully...he does state on his auction that he has NOS sweeps. If you go to his Ebay store you will find the NOS sweeps...now selling for $499.99. Now he's marking up the repops too by approx 57% over what other trusted ECC sellers carry them for! He's also a member here and I'm sure he'll come up with some excuse, maybe the extra $20 bucks is a handling fee. You decide who you want to do business with...I have!
