: Mass. Insurance
mgs72elky 01-23-2007, 10:32 AM Hello All, My policy for the Elky is currently under my regular auto ins. and it's time to renew. I've started looking into Grundy and Hagerty, but am coming up wih more questions than answers due to living in the wonderful, damn state of Mass. I'm hearing things like - Mass doesn't allow ' Agreed Value ' or no ' Inflation Guard ' and there must be a ' Deductible '. The Agreed Value of course is the most important issue. There's currently a discussion in the main forum on collector ins. but it isn't really helpful to someone living in this state. I'm curious as to who most of you Ma. folks are using. Unfortunetly, I'm not quite ready to pack it in and make my move to Fla. Next year perhaps. Thanks to any members that can give me some input on this. Later... P.S. April is only 2 months away!!!!!!!!!
el Bandido 01-24-2007, 09:20 PM Hey Mark,
Glad to hear your gonna hang around for another season...
I hope you are feeling at least three times better than the last time I heard from you !
I am not going to take the Poll because I don't know which is better.
I use Grundy - they asked ME to fill-in an "agreed value" and then they choose my annual premium - last year it was $484.
I guess I won't know how good they are until something happens and hopefully that will be never.
I have actually thought about what a scam the collector car insurance business is they collect $500 from say 10,000 people (probably A LOT MORE than 10,000 - which is A LOT MORE than $5Million) and knowing how we all care for, and baby, and drive our cars - how many claims do you think they actually get in a year ????? NICE PROFIT huh.
Drop me an e-mail - would love to know how you are feeling
Tom

mgs72elky 01-24-2007, 10:03 PM Tom, Good to hear from ya, and appreciate the reply. I'm awaiting paperwork from all 3 companies. You surprised me with your statement on the 'Agreed Value'. I had read on American Collectors site that Ma. doesn't allow 'Agreed Value'. As you said, it's obvious you do have it with Grundy. I'll call Grundy tomorrow and be sure, then probably go with them. I hear ya on the profit potential, incredible huh. Thanks for the responce and asking about the health. Will send e-mail on the personal stuff. Don't want to bore all of region 2 with the details. Later......
a73elkyss 02-03-2007, 06:54 AM Hey guys. Glad you're feeling better Mark. I've used Grundy for my last two Elco's and it is an agreed value policy. Like Tom said, I hope I never have to find out how good/bad the policy is. I've received nothing but good service from them on registration and renewal.
They only have three restrictions. One, it can't be your daily driver to work (so you have to prove that you have another vehicle). Two, it has to be garaged in a wooden garage type structure, no tent garages. And last, no one under twenty-five can drive it.
For me, it seemed reasonable and very doable.
Hope it helps.
John Harris 02-03-2007, 10:55 AM And then there are those of us in MA with 5th gens: Mine is an '83, so it is less than 25 years old and the specialty insurers will not provide coverage under MA law. So, it becomes the 3rd vehicle on my policy, is driven less than 3000 per year, never in rain or snow, and is always kept off-street or in garage....and I have to pay over $900 additional for it!!
What I like especially here in MA is that I am the only driver listed for the car and have another daily driver which is fully insured. Nevertheless, I still have to pay the full liability and property damage on that other car as well as on the Elky...even though I can only drive one at at time. No one likes to hear my argument that the insurance coverage should on me as a driver. I am the one who creates the risk, if any. The car just sits there unless I put it into motion. So, why don't they let me pay just a single liability premium as one person driving?? Talk about your double profits, here is another good example of gouging the public! Bah!
mgs72elky 02-03-2007, 06:33 PM Hi Jay and John, Appreciate the replies guys. I did recieve paperwork from both Hagerty and Grundy this week, so I'll reinsure with one of them next week. By far, either one will be better than what I had on it. God forbid, it did get stolen, at least there'd be a decent check to help with some of the pain. But I'll tell ya, if anybody is going to make a try for it, I sure hope I'm home. I'd love to see the look on thier face as I approach them with my Dobies heeling on each side of me. John I hear ya on the triple liability, it truly is both unfair and unjust, and to make matters worse, it's probably insured for far less than it's worth. I can't tell ya how much I look foward to leaving this state next year. Thanks again guys.
