I'm restoring a 72 Cutlass and am looking for a radical red paint. (base-Clear). Don't worry guys, am only doing this to make a little money to put a new 9", posi, disk setup in my Elky. So if anyone knows of a radical red that they have seen, let me know.
Thanks for any ideas,
Mike

I am using Chrysler's Inferno Red Metalic on my 79 when I paint it. I think it is from 02 to present. Then using Viper Silver for my rally strips.

I think it is PPG that has Boyd Red. Boyd Cottingham came up with it. I've seen it in person and it really jumps out at you. A very deep red.

Elky83,If you have not already done so stop in at a PPG auto paint supply store and ask them to show you color samples of their vibrance line of colors.Take them out into to sun and look at them.I had my 87 done in teal color shifting paint with silver bottom. They just came out with a reddish color called watermelon that I like.Sorry I still can't post photos.A member called The Storm is able to put the color you ask for on a computer generated El Camino so can see what it would look like.

DuPont has a line of paints called Chromalusion. The link above is the spec sheet. Compare that to the PPG line mentioned, if you can side by side.

Chromalusion changes colors based of your angle of view not necessarily light but light is a major factor too. Its just wild stuff. They have a color called FirePrizim (Red) and it has like seven different variations to choose from. Also DuPont makes a line of "Candy Coats"

I painted my El camino "Hot Poppy" red which is one of the DuPont "Hot Hues" colors. This color is not radical, but it does get a lot of attention at all of the car shows I have entered. See April 2007 ECC Calendar.

Jack,

where did you get your grill insert?

The Billet Grille is from Honest Charley. I added to it the flags from a late model Corvette which I epoxied some studs to the back side for fastening to the grille.

I have the Lauren Engineering Front end. I've been looking for something other than what came with the fascia for a grill. I never thought to look and see if Honest Charley had a insert for the Choo Choo Front end. It looks good!

I'd do SS on the grill since mine is actually an SS. I've been looking for that IROC SS Decals or a paint stencil I can use. I haven't been looking really hard. I'm really not in love with Decals, not with my 80 I want it part of the paint job.

I'll be painting it with the BlassBerry Blue Chromalusion by DuPont. I'll do silver metallic pearl body stripes and "peach" pin striping. I know it sounds stupid, but consider the frame was painted Ultraviolet Pearl Metallic, the under carriage of the body is Peach, it's an Isuzu color, so to tie it all up I'll need that.

The engine is also going to be the Ultraviolet Pearl and the Transmission/driveshaft, rear end. Under the hood I'm still tossing around thoughts. I'm thinking I want it peach, like the undercarriage. Chromalusion is really expensive paint but I want a way to tie that all together and I know I can.

My theme was to make it unique but like lifting the girl's skirt, it's not all tanned under there! So really the peach is more a flesh tone and even though it's called "peach" its looks fleshy to me...

Chrome really looks nice against that Ultraviolet metallic. I know...... I'm weird! Its cool it's me.

If you are looking for an SS addition, check out some of the late model Chevy Truck SS emblems. I put some on the front fenders and tail gate of my El Camino. I too dont care for the decals.
