Hello,

I was just wondering if any of you could help or direct me to a site that can tell you how you go about getting a spline count. I'm dropping a brand new 383 in and the old stock rear end is gonna get an upgrade as well, thinking aurburn posi, not quite sure of the gears i want to go with yet. But I do need a spline count to get started. I'm fairly new to working on cars, I'm sure its something that isnt too terribly difficult for me to do, just need to know how to go about doing it. Thanks for the read.

Are you talking about the axle splines or the tranny output shaft splines?

If tranny splines, then it's easy. Drop the driveshaft and count them.

If it's axle splines you want to know about, I'd either look it up based on your axle type, or pull the diff. cover/pan and then an axle and count them directly.

If you have the axle housing number, maybe someone here will look it up for you and save you the mess of draining and refilling the diff. oil.

Hope it helps.
