Well the weather is getting better and it's bout time to start some cruising! Car shows are popping up, I got so much to do this year to finish up the 80 SS Project finally! Hopefully anyway.

Anyone using an Optima Battery? I just bought a Deep Cycle/ Stating Optima for the 76. Over the winter the battery went south on me. Wondering about their reliability and longevity. They are super heavy. I had planned to use one in the 80 since that one will be in the bed and the bed is going to be carpeted I didn't want something that would ruin the carpet with fumes and acid.

I have some elbow grease to use up - the 76's paint job got some fine scratches on it from of all things, leaves! I hate it but had to let her sit outside over the winter. I'm stuck working weekends for the rest of this month but on Sunday's I only work a half day so this afternoon I'm going to do some polishing, install the battery, change my oil, (Royal Purple) and just let her run some.

It is suppose to get up to 63 today! Beautiful blue skies, man I hate being stuck indoors! Especially on days like today!

Ladies and gentleman it is going to be springtime soon! Really soon! Sorry about all the snow you guys are getting in the northern regions. It has to be horrible! But just think, pretty soon it's going to be show time! Start your engines! 8)

I hope that all of you get good progress on your projects, see some really fine Custom Hot Rod Cars and Trucks, get to the track and make a few passes and just have a blast this Spring/Summer time!

I've been using a red top Optima for over a year now, no problems, well, except for when I left the dome light on.

Yep, things start poppin around here next month show and cruise in wise. I haven't cleaned Ol Paint up since the last cruise in in October, been driving it and putting off the cleaning. It's dirtier than it's been since the HRPT last year. I'll have things lookin good pretty soon though.

Just finished the only major project for it this winter. I reworked my exhaust and added a pair of electric cutouts. I finished the plumbing and temporarily hooked up the wiring to try them out last night !!! I'll do a proper wiring job on them sometime this week and start having some fun!!! 8)

Thanks for those words Pete. That just put inspiration level through the roof. I can't wait to get my Elky to some shows. As far as the battery goes I run a red top Optima as well and have had great luck with it.

Hi Pete.Come on Spring. We had the first area show yeterday and there were about 40 cars in the cold and windy weather. Guess others are ready to get going. I have pretty well changed to all Optima batterys in all my vehicles. Never had a problem with them and hold up a long time. Enjoy the coming season. JJ73

After years of Diehards that didn't, I switched to Optima and never had a problem since. The extreme heat and stiff ride kills batteries pretty quick down here. Besides when I relocate it inside the spare tire well, it doesn't outgas so its safe for inside mounting.

It's already getting into the upper 70's here. Our outdoor activities down here in the SW are done during the winter months when its t-shirt weather. The only thing that sucks about that, is the days are short (8 hrs daylight).

But for some good news:

Check out this link: http://www.caballeros.org/midnight.htm

Its awesome. all pre-72 and limited to ONLY 900 entries. The best thing is, for once it's not the same weekend as the NHRA Powerade Drags in Phoenix. Yep, I plan on going to both for a change, 5 days and counting

We had our first show the week before last, Asphalt Angels. This was an indoor show with a decent number of cars, but only 1 El Camino, a frame of full restore '68. Nice job. The owner had done this right. A couple of other interesting cars, a '61 Impala, year 2000 GM Carlisle best in show; A very nice 1942 Ford Fodor, A 1954 Mercury Montery and bunches of street rods. I just can't part with my Elky overnight somewhere without me for 3 days. Come on spring!

I'm with ya on this one Don :D Just when a Chinook blows through and clears all the roads...wham! Winter comes right back. I don't know about you out east but we've got a mixture of salt and crushed rock for our roads. I guess it's good that the Diablo has been hibernating all winter but boy am I getting withdrawls.

I'm sorry guys! Yesterday was 75 and a bit windy today it's suppose to be up to 80. It is a little cloudy out but it's not bad. There have been a few shows here locally. Like I said I'm stuck working weekends for the rest of this month. Thank goodness it's a really short month.

I'm noticing in the mornings there is more light and since I drive east every day to work and west every evening home, soon I'll be in the sun comin' and goin'.

The weather service said this year because of "Global Warming" it's been the hottest overall winter we (The U.S.) has seen. You folks up north and east sure have gotten a lot of snow, I mean a lot of snow for it being the hottest winter ever.

Anyway, all things being considered... No matter who you are and where you live right now, it's getting closer to a time where outdoors activities, projects, and longer days are on us.

I know I've got a full spring, summer and fall ahead of me. I know most of it is going to be much better than cold, rain, and icy streets! I'm starting now and when I get any extra time, I'll be out in it!

BTW:

I saw a place on the net that sells battery holders just for the Optima line of battery. They were Billet Aluminum all polished and all that, looked good. I lost the link but I'm sure I'll dig it up again.

Not even just tinkering under the hood? I used to do that when I lived in an appartment. I didn't have too much problem, except people stopping to bother me because they had "never seen a girl working on a car" :?

I bought a red top Optima 11 years ago for my daily driver and it's still in daily service! Never had any problems, never charged it!
Highly recommendable!
About those billet battery holders, I think I've seen them at Summit.

And for the spring time, here's a pic from Sogn in Norway I took today:http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u249/CaminoTigger/DSC00038.jpg
We've had a very cold weather here the last few weeks so I'm really looking forward to the sun and spring time coming back soon!

Terje my family immigrated from your neck of the woods. I spent three years actually in Germany but got out to see Austria, Copenhagen, Amsterdam. Went to Paris :loser: , didn't like it! Nasty attitudes there. :screwy: It was really nice being in Europe, most of it.

I can't say I enjoyed the winters but spring and summer, man you guys rock! Parties all over the place, :alc2: oops they're called "Fests" but my goodness I drank gallons of Beer. Munich in October! Great place, wonderful time. Hard to believe I was actually in the Army at the time.

I always wanted to go back after I was out of the military, in the spring time. It is a whole different world from the U.S. Well it was in the 70s. I miss some of the food, some of the little places "Guest houses" had some great food. I never wanted to know what it was as long as it tasted good I didn't care.

Damn, I'm old!
