: Yenko Elcamino?

Until I saw the movie 2fast 2furious, I realized I had never seen or heard of a Yenko ElCamino! 8O
If one was never built, why not?
Hmmmmm.
Got me thinking so I posed the question to the Yenko club and am awaiting a response.
It does not make sense to me that one was'nt built.
The Elkies could be ordered with the same motors as the camaros and chevelles and novas such as the 396, 427,454 etc etc.
If and when I get a response, I will let the forum know.
Until then, has anyone ever heard any stories about a Yenko Elcamino?

Ahh...No!

You have to remember Chevrolet did not make these cars. Don Yenko did. He was a racer/auto sales dealer who put these cars together.

Maybe back in 1969-70 if you would of been in that dearlership and knew him you could of said, "Hey why not make a Yenko El Camino?" All he had to do was put a few together as he did with the Camaro, Chevelle, and Nova's.

Nice thought though!

i have a 65 gto convt. thats in a postponed state of resurection, and i just bought my 65 elcomino. I got thinking, why didn't Pontiac make it's version of the elcomino? I think in that year it would have been cool to see a elcomino with a gto front clip or something close to it. The stacked headlights, the mean looking grill. I don't know, just a thought :?

Ok.
I got this response from Yenko in less than 12 hours. Impressive.
Oh well.
I know some that belonged to friends that easily put out as much or more power than any Yenko and were probably just as hairy to drive.
Absolutely NUTHIN' as impressive as raw, bone chilling, heart stopping, blood thinning, saliva generating, ear tingling, ground pounding power.
Nuff said.

Oops.
Forgot the response from Yenko.
Here it is.

I'd say Yenko Chevrolet sold some El Caminos, but whether or not they made any into Supercars or not is uncertain. To this date none (with documentation) have ever turned up.

These days you can't bash Honda or Toyota. As a GM man it sickens me to say that. But as a technican I have to say they got their $#@! together. Most of these cars only come in for maintanace or if some owner messed something up. I drive a 91 corolla to work everyday and never had any problems, if fact it just clocked 200,000 mi. today. Hopefully by next summer the elky will be ready to run. It's been a years since i've owned anything with muscle. Well, I appolgize if i have insulted anyone by these coments, it's not my opinion only an observation. If the linch mob must come and get me. somebody please finish my 65.

If you build it they will come....

I suppose you could build a 69 or 70 El Camino in the style Yenko or Motion would have done....here is a crate engine to start with..just add a 6 speed and some nice meaty skins and a cowl induction hood. Anybody check thier lotto tickets?.

I thought of making my '82 into a Yenko. I saw it done on a Monte of the same year and did look fairly convincing.

I agree with Jimmy 74 - The days when American cars were the best in the world are long gone. For the money, a Toyota, Nissan or Honda is probably the best deal in today's economy. With little more than normal care they can go 250-300,000 miles, they have great re-sale value and, at least here on the west coast, they seem to outnumber American cars something like, 3-1.

While I still own an El Camino and probably always will, I think I'm seen as something of an "oddball" in my neighborhood for driving a 23 year vehicle that's been described as Half-Station Wagon & Half-Pickup truck. AT LEAST that's what my wife (who drives the '02 Accord Coupe EX - L w/4 cylinder & 5 Speed) and my kid (who gets chauffered around in the '03 Pilot w 3.5 liter V6 & 4 Wheel Drive) tell me...

american cars are still the best in the world ill take a v-8 over a 4-banger. im 16 and me and 3 of my friends have classic cars, our group has my elky my friends elky, our other friend who just got a camero, and my buddy who has a 67 GMC truck and all the cars are 10 times better than any ricer here. hondas are econ car not race cars like these little fast and the ferious wanna be's.

I have a Chevy Truck that has over 188,000 and besides the Alternator I've tuned it twice and keep good oil in it and drive the crap out of it. So as far as the difference between American and American-foreign is very minor. For me its not enough to justify buying a ricer.

My 91 Caprice had 200,000 on it and I didn't do anything to it besides keep it tuned and drive it and my 86 Caviler had over 190,000 on its odometer on it when I got rid of it. It now has well in excess of 260,000 on it and still running (I know the people who have it).

Some people have good habits when it comes to taking care of automobiles and some drive them into the ground. So it really does depend on the owner of the vehicle, my view.

Like my buddy Bob said "No matter what you do to it or how much money you spend, it will always be a Honda" Even though you can tweak the imports pretty high these days with new technologie, theres nothing like a top end 7,500RPM blast in a 69 L88 Vette with the T roofs off on a hot summer night with the side pipes singing thier song

 Long live the muscle car!

I've never heard of one but who says you can't be the first. It's really cool idea. Good luck! :)
