Hey guys! Guys? How about some type of cruise-in get-together type of thing before it gets too hot? Suggestions? Ideas? Location? Whatcha think? I am game so we have one car now,how many more can we get?

What ? Whats that ?? Do I smell the sweet fragerance of a road trip???

OK ? ! el Dawg, 82 Elco, Lenny, Skinyfisher and 30 more Elky's and we have a car show, cruise in or what ever we choose! When and where.

This Sunday Bradenton at COX CHEVROLET all Chevy Show THIS MIGHT BE SHORT NOTICE (ya think). Good little 150 car show 8 am to 3pm I think. Anyone want info email me and I have the flyer at home.

I propose the best chance and most cars would be Oct 25th & 26th at Moroso Motorspors Track West Palm Super Chevy Show. That way you have no arranging to do for parking or any work to do accept show up put out the chairs, eat ,drink watch the drag races and shop for whatever at vendor row. It can be one day or two days as the show is Sat & Sun. How about that Lenny you will be closer and I will have to drive across the state.

ElDawgg

Thats four! I am open for suggestions for a date/location. I know at least one guy thats not on here that would attend. Two more that might come also.-none of which are "show cars" but we all must start somewhere! It is good to see some interest, Its been a long time since we did the Old Town things........This Sunday is bad for me, my other half wants to take her little Comet to a local show.

Jive 65

If I'm on the road I'll try and make it. October at Moroso sounds do-able. I can't wait to do Old Town!
ElDawgg, what local show this sunday?

Lenny Carey
04-18-2007, 05:58 PM
I definitely plan on going to Moroso Park in West Palm in October for the Super Chevy Show but I am hoping for another one in between that if possible. When I joined a couple of years ago,the Saturday displaying of the El Caminos on the main street of Old Town and then doing the cruise was especially fun.Peter did a nice job arranging it.Eldawgg and I just request not to be next to the screaming electric chair amusement.Would it be cool to meet up there or are there any other shows like Skinyfisher mentioned where we can park the Caminos together?

82 Elco
04-18-2007, 11:07 PM
I agree, a get together in between the Moroso show is in order. I am ready willing and able. Just say when and where.

ElDawgg
04-19-2007, 06:20 AM
It is good to see that we have interest for a get together! I dont care if it is along with another show or not. I think if we had a "day at the park" or a "cruise in "we might get our members who would not attend with thier cars to a regular show. Many would say "my car is not ready" If we did our own thing there would be no judging, no worries, just have fun w/other El Camino enthusiasts? Just a thought? Bob, I will shoot you a PM on the show (its a hot rod/custom show) Lenny, thats so funny  You WERE feeding those kids dollar bills to get that thing a goin'

Heck yea, Im down for the Morso show. Just keep me posted where to meet at, I was there for pinks and I could have lost a jumbo jet in that crowd. haha Also, if anyone goes to Moroso on Wednesdays or Fridays let me know, I'll meet you out there. I live about 30 minutes (45 if you do the speed limit) south of moroso. I just hate going out there and having some jerk from Pro Street leak oil the entire length of the track or slam into the wall doing 150. lol PM me if your intrested

What's up Region 6?

Personally, I would like to have a get-together sometime soon in an effort to take advantage of the nice weather before it turns ugly. I realize I might be too late but that is my .02.

That being said and excited about the fact that we have obviously picked up interest here is a quick list of shows that I put together based on some of the schedules that I have seen. I am certain there is more.

Obviously April 20th is too late.

April 20 – 22 9th annual Spring Nationals Jacksonville, Fl

www.good-guys.com

May 5 will not work for me as I already have plans. De La Hoya fights Mayweather. I'm all over that.

May 5 – 6 Southeastern Nats Jacksonville, Fl

www.vividreality.net

Possible. Be advised that this is more of a truck show (i.e. younger crowd).

June 2 – 3 It won’t stop Vero Beach Fl

www.itdontstop.com

Making plans for this already.

Oct 25th & 26th West Palm Beach Moroso

What do you guys think? Plan for October, while considering some other get-together sooner? Yes, no, maybe???

Lenny Carey
04-24-2007, 07:12 AM
The itdontstop show June 2-3 in Vero Beach sounds doable and fun to me.For me coming up from Key West it would be great to see stuff that we don`t see much of down here and I enjoy seeing the wild paint jobs and mods. It would also provide a couple of days rather than just one after the long ride.Eldawgg`s suggestion of a "day in the park" also sounds cool as we may get others to bring out their Caminos that don`t want to meet up at a bigger show as they feel their ride is not ready for a show, don`t like shows or whatever their thinking is.Let`s keep kicking it around.I still plan on going to Moroso in West Palm area in October.

From what has been posted it sounds like a none judged free entry with good parking is in order and at a place that is centrally located, has hotels and food with no pressure just meet and eat and drink " OLD TOWN" is the only place that meets all of the needs. But in oder to get a model year exclusion you have to do a Saturday thing like last time and then they seem to let the late models stay into the night. This will require a cordinator to do. It sounds like mybe there is more than 10 or 12 Elky's interested ??? I believe that is the total two years ago?.
Other than that it is pick a show and meet or the other good place is the once a month cruise-in at PLant City it draws 200 to 500 cars and has parking for all. It is a free enrty and no judging and there is everthing that has wheels there. If you get there at 1 or 2 pm you can park everyone together or very close if we come in stagered. Show starts at 4 or 5 and goes till 8 or 9 I will have to look it up I have been many times. Plant City is a few miles off interstate 4 west of Kissimee. But it is still sorta in the middle of the state.

82 Elco
04-24-2007, 07:54 PM
Not a bad idea at all. I think I am going to do the Vero beach show regardless. I might take the Impala in lieu of the Elco.

Plant City or Old Town sounds good to me as well. I'm down for whatever. Just let me know and I will make it happen. How is that for moral support?

Lenny Carey
04-29-2007, 08:52 AM
The itdontstop show in June or Plant City sounds good to me.If another place is available thats also ok if it is reasonably or centrally located as something like Jacksonville is a little too far this time of year.I tried to find info online about Plant City but came up empty handed.Skinyfisher or anyone else have details?Count me in for a get together.

The 4th sunday of the month is a cruise in in Eustis. About 200 cars, open to everything. There were 6 Elky's there this week, but none of the owners near their rides when I went by. I gotta print up some of those flyers to take with me next month.

I heard from Count. He plans to be in Old Town this Friday around 5:00. He said it went on till about 9:00 or so.

Jive... the Eustis event on the 4th saturday of the month sounds like something to shoot for. It gives us a few weeks to get things in order. El Dawgg you out there? Sure would be nice to meet some other Elco enthusiasts.

Jive what time does this get started?

skinyfisher
05-01-2007, 10:43 PM
Theres the old town thing already if you do not set up for main street day show and than let it run to the night you will get the model year problem.
Friday night is late model so no one under 72 can get in and a normal Saturday no one over 73 can get in. So that means a little more planning so all can go an than stay into the night as the featured main street model.

Jive 65

The Eustis show runs from 4-5 PM to 9PM, 4th saturday of the month. It's right in the middle of town along the lake, plenty of food, etc. available.

The Eustis show Jive is talking about is possible for me and as Eldawgg says it would be cool to get in without year restrictions that Skinyfisher mentioned are in place at Old Town.Maybe others will be inclined to come if it is not a judged show.Jive, could you post some more deatails if you have any.Is there a web site where we could go to get location etc for room reservations if you guys decide to meet there? I don`t want to drive that far without a reservation nearby if I can help it.

Eustis, FL is about 30 miles north of Orlando on Rt.19, right off highway 441. The show is held downtown, there is no website for it, sponsored by local merchants. There are some B&B's in town, and numerous hotels on 441, listings should be available through a google search

Eustis sounds better and better.I don`t know if we need it or will get any info on the car show but I took the liberty and just emailed the asst. park and recreation director in Eustis for any info or contact number about the show.I will post it as soon as I get any info.I Googled and got several hotels in the area but did not find any in Eustis ,but there are several in nearby Tavares and Mount Dora, the closest being only about 3 miles away.I will look again later to see if I can find some b&bs in Eustis.Jive, thanks for the info. What do you other guys think?

Edonthebeach,

Eustis sounds like a plan the 4th Saturday of the month would be the 26th.

An 86 Elco fresh out of the paint shop. Can't wait to see that. Who did the paint? Where do you stay at? I would be down to meeting with you somewhere and rolling out. Keep us posted.

After getting more info on Jives suggestion I`m ready for a road trip to Eustis.I got return emails from their recreation dept. and Alliance for Downtown Eustis. They said we are welcomed ,no fees,no judging. They close the downtown streets at 4 p.m. on Sat.May 26.Follow signs to parking and register at Strawberry`s Ice Cream Parlor.Goes till about 9 p.m.Their website is www.eustismainstreet.org .Lots of food around.Has 1 b&b listed in Eustis with rates from $115-130.Five hotels listed starting 3 miles in nearby Tavares and Mount Dora.I googled Eustis hotels and a number are close by.Rates start around $80.Remember that is Memorial Day weekend so we should take a head count and get reservations a.s.a.p.If we get enough commitments I will at least ask if it is possible for us to park together if we get there early. If we make a decision soon, maybe we will have time to try and notify other member around the state. So what do you all want to do?

Ok guys I am game (I will be in the 85) If this is a main street cruise in type thing we will need to meet somewhere close off site so we will be able to park together correct? Most of the cruise in type events are a park as you roll in type thing and it sure would be cool for everyone to park together. Any suggestions?Or can we reserve a few spots? If we cant we need to set up a spot to meet

Lenny Carey

Jive65,Glad to hear that you will drive over to say hello. My present plans are to drive up from the Keys Friday and stay at my sisters house in Palm Beach for the night then get an morning start to Eustis with the hope of getting there around 3 p.m. If the holiday traffic seems to be real busy,I may drive up closer towards Eustis and then find a motel along the Turnpike to be closer.Eldawgg,I think you are right in that you drive in and park.I suggest we meet at nearby Ferran Park and then together short drive over to downtown and park together. They close the streets at 4p.m. for the show parking and show starts at 5 p.m.Go to www.eustismainstreet.org .Click on the Chamber of Commerce and they have a detailed map of Eustis. It also shows # 44 coming to the middle of downtown and Ferran Park a block or two away.Should be some parking there. Was told there will be signs to the parking. After parking ,sign in at Strawberry`s Ice Cream Parlor. No fees,no judging so hopefully like Eldawgg said ,perhaps others will be inclined to bring their Camino regardless of the condition it is in.What do you think of that?

EdontheBeach
05-07-2007, 09:20 AM
i'm gonna be there, but i think i'm gonna drive back home after - i think it's only about 2 hrs (tampa area). i'll check again before the cruise, but i think connecting someplace then driving in and parking next to each other would be real cool.

Last week they had cars in the Ferran Park lot too. The Elky's coul dmeet there and decide to stay or caravan across the street to "downtown". Route 19 splits into two one-way streets through that area with two blocks inbetween. The cars park in the cross streets in downtown. They have a policeman stopping traffic for pedestrians so it's easy to get across to Ferran Park.
Heck, I may just throw the doors & bumper back on and show up in the '65!

Is there a way to send a short private message to other Florida members about the Eustis show?I tried in the member list but could only do one at a time by scrolling down each page, going to their profile and sending a message. There are about 188 pages and each message would require a individual mailing. If there is not a way,in a few days I will start sending out messages one at a time in the hopes of inviting them to join us.Anyone know an easier way?I am not very computer savvy. As Jive pointed out maybe we should meet at Ferran Park, park together and then at 4p.m. see if we want to stay there together or drive together across the street and park.

I would imagine that theres a way Lenny. Perhaps try PMing Peter (R59) and see what he says. I seem to remember that he tried it before with not so good results. Seems to me a lot of email addresses were no longer valid and not updated by each individual for the site (ex:people changing internet service and not updating info on here)Worth a try though!

Hi Guys
I am new in the forum. This is my first post. I am definetly interested in being part of any get together in the south florida area. Every weekend there is a local show going on down here. I have met some other el camino fellows and have told them about this great site. I will attend moroso in west palm beach on October I am about an hour 1/2 away south. Here is a website that tells you about any local show between dade, broward and palm beach county.

Second... gosh where have I been? Okay so a get-togther in Eustis it is. I am down for meeting with you guys at the park or wherever then driving in.

Lenny... if we time it right maybe you can come to the house and I will then leave with you. Keep me posted. Thanks.

Also while we are at it.... let's keep Moroso in October on our radar. That sounds like a cool event. I will plan for that as well. Excellent.

I will be in the safari van though i think that would be a good idea to meet in ferran park. i could show everyone where to go i know eustis like the back of my hand. the only thing that will be stopping me from going is if i have to work saturday night but i will see if i can get someone to cover for me. and the next couple days after that me and my friend will be headed to ohio in his elky for the power tour, we are doing the long haul. I still am thinking about taking the van along.

Glad to hear several of us plan on attending the show and wish a few others will decide to drop in.I started sending PM`s at the newest end of the member list and worked backwards. Most have their city listed. Then I started sending from page one and worked toward the middle.A lot of the older members don`t seem to have their city listed.I know I only scratched the surface of numbers of members. This week the site has been incrediably slow for whatever reason. It gets to where just to go from one member to another I can go downstairs and make a sandwich before it switches.Hey,I`m already out of mayonaise! An observation, not being critical.I know this is a free site run by volunteers and greatly appreciate their time and efforts on our behalf.I think I will try to send out a few more but I`m getting busy this week.Sent out 138 PM`s,8 of which were duplicates.Looking forward to seeing others El Caminos.82Elco remember to send your address and phone # soon.

I received a return PM from Easyrider61 that wants to come and was asking for directions from Lake Helen which I think is just north of Deltona.Blue81elcamino ,I sent you a PM since you know the area and maybe you can help him if you see it in time.If anyone else could contact him with directions I`m sure he would appreciate it.82Elco got you PM with your number and directions to your house. Thanks

Sorry for the late reply. Lenny / Easyrider61.. here is the google map directions link from Lake Helen to Eustis.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&saddr=Lake+helen+fl&daddr=eustis+florida&sll=28.732743,-81.248016&sspn=0.458799,0.913239&ie=UTF8&ll=28.825425,-81.430664&spn=0.458392,0.913239&z=11&om=1

From what I could best tell you will take I-4 towards Tampa to SR46. You will then head west to SR44. According to the map it is about 38 miles from Lake Helen.

Perhaps he can meet up with blueelcamino he is in that area.

Lenny in looking at this Google thing it might be better if you and I took 46 straight out to Eustis. It seems like it would be a little quicker. Sounds like we will be meeting at fern park.

Anyone have an address for that place? I'll keep checking the posts.

blue81elcamino...

We are go for Eustis this weekend. I will get with Lenny to figure out particulars. If target meet time is 5:00 lenny and I need to be gassed up and on the road by say 3:00 to account for any "incidentals" that might crop up.

Edonthebeach.. where are you coming from. South or Southwest?

btw... blue81elcamino - I like that green elco. I can't wait to see that and the rest of the Elcos in person.

I will make sure my digital cameras are charged up with fresh memory cards and all. :-D

I plan to be at Ferran Park about 4PM, that is when they start enforcing the no parking in the show areas. I'll try to talk to someone about reserving a wholerow for us. Last month there were 40 or 50 cars on display in Ferran Park itself, they had an officer stopping traffic so folks could cross Bay St at will.
If you look at the map Steven posted (thanks!) the main cross roads of the display area are Magnolia and Eustis. Where Magnolia crosses Bay is the entrance to Ferran park for display. If you come north on 19 from 441 you will see Magnolia marked a 'show car entrance' on your left. Go past it to Clifford St and turn left to Bay St (traffic light). Go straight across Bay St and you can enter Ferran Park, turn left into the park.
See you guys saturday!

82 Elco,Thanks for your address and phone #.I plan to leave the Keys Fri. and spend the night at my sisters in Lake Park just north of Palm Beach then head for your place around 10 a.m. Sat. morning.Mapquest says it takes slightly over 2 hrs. from Lake Park so I hope to be in your area by around 1 or 2p.m. the latest, after stopping for gas and cafe con leche. It is almost 850 miles round trip and my wife laughs and says I would feel pretty stupid to get there late!I will send you an email with my Cell and sisters #.81blueElcamino,thanks for the directions.Much appreciated .Jive65,if you could get there around 4p.m. and ask about us parking together and where that would be great and would make it easier for us.Alimony,Easyrider61,Hatchthis59,Edonthebeach hope you guys are still planning on coming.

I left a voicemail. The plan remains for him to drive to my house. We will drive to Eustis from here. We'll go out the northside. via SR46.

Thanks for the info Jive. I've got your phone number programed on my cell.

We'll see everyone tomorrow. Cool.

fellas! - that was a good trip. it only took 2.5 hrs to get back instead of the 3.5 to get there.

leanne - thanks for the tip on getting back to I-75. in fact thanks to both you and jeff for helping me get all those lovebugs off that new paint when i rolled in.

it was good to see those elkys parked along side each other, and all the other cars, too. there were some nice rides there. i expect next time we see juan he'll have those lcd visors in his elky.

juan, you and lenny have a couple of BAD rides there.

brian-i just checked my national parts depot catalog, they show willow green; don't know if that's your color though.

bob-you gotta keep us posted on that chopped elky. that's gonna look cool.

good trip, a much better venue than the old towne kissimmee site i think. we need to find other runs like that. check out flacarshows.com

Yes, good trip indeed! It is great to meet other Elco enthusiasts and check out the ride up close and personal.

Other than getting on the wrong 44 and taking the scenic route with Brian it was nice. Lesson learned. Next time, I will do what Ed did and leave earlier when it's still light so that I can see which street goes where and so on. The good news is that the way we went back (via Deltona), there were less love bugs to contend with.

It doesn't matter, I am still going to go wash my Elco as soon as I hit the submit button. :P

Ed I am glad you made it back okay. I really liked your paint color choice and the flames. Good looking Elco.

Jeff and Leane, you guys are great! El Dawg and I were commenting on how nice that 69 is. Straight body, All pieces there. Excellent.

Bob - too bad about the starter. I can't wait to see that chopped 65 up and running at the events. I was good to see you. Thanks for coming out.

Steve and Alex you guys have some skills at such a young age. Congratulations on all your efforts and vehicle endeavors. It was nice talking to guys and your Dad. I look forward to checking out your Elcos in addition to checking out Alex's progress.

El Dawg - It was cool to ride out with you, check out the rides, and just kick it. Good idea.

Last but surely not least. A big thanks are in order to Lenny for taking the ball and running with it. Not to mention the fact that he drove up from the Keys for this event. How is that for dedicated service and loyalty? Mr. Lenny takes the award for farthest member commute!

Really big thanks to Lenny for doing all that he did to notify folks of the event, participating, making it happen, and for just being such a cool guy.

I got lots of cool pics. I will download, resize, upload, and post them on here later today possibly tomorrow. I've got a small list of things to get done and other "commitments" to attend to. Busy day already! 8O

Like Juan said, a big thanks to Lenny for the long distance ride and all the busy work turning this idea into a happening.
I did get a starter late this afternoon, also found & fixed the tranny leak. I'm still upset I didn't get the 65 there.... :( , next time!
We have a nice little core in central FL, maybe we can do something quarterly, in different venues between east & west coasts.

Hey guys,
Just for the record, Vicki & I took the Jive 65 to the Eustis Cruise in last nite, saw Steven (blue81elcamino) there and talked a bit. A few other El Camino's scattered throughout the show.
As I just picked up an LT1 yesterday, I taped a for sale sign on the windshield for the old 305 motor & trans. It was fun watching people come over to see about buying the truck! Especially when I went out looking aropund and Vicki stayed there!

How is Steve doing? Will the 65 be ready for Moroso? It still on my radar. 4 months and counting.

Steve is doing OK, working on getting his new motor in.
Moroso, being realistic I hope I can have all the mechanicals squared away by then. Doubt I'll get to too much body work, much less the interior! If it's driveable, I'll show up in multi-colored primer!

Juan,Yes Moroso is definitely on my list also.Skinyfisher turned me on to them and have attended the ones in Bradenton and Gainesville.Car shows, drag racing, flea market, etc. My favorite is the nitro burning cars.WWW.superchevyshow.com for anyone that wants to check out their web site. I have received a few messages from others that are interested and I think we will have a good showing of El Caminos .Alimony, have you done any more work on your ride?Let us know how the 5 speed install turned out.Good news is that we have had our share of rain making it nice for our neighboorhood fireworks show last night.Several of us pooled our money and had a kickass fireworks display.I think what I enjoyed most was firing off the large size bottle rockets at each other to start off the show.Well I need to go out and start cleaning up and take the scaffolding down.Later

Hi Lenny,

Hope all is well. Good to hear Moroso is on your sights as well. It does sound like we there will be a few more Elcos there this time around. It will be nice to see everyone's rides.

It certainly sounds like a good time was had by all on the 4th. Excellent. Business as usual on my end. Still working on the rides and keeping busy at work. We have another launch scheduled for 08-07-07. Another around the 20th of Oct and possibly one more in early December. Stay tuned.

Nice to talk to you Lenny and the offer you extended is excepted I will give you a land line on Tuesday afternoon.
That puts me back into the MOROSO show for the two days. Now it's get the car ready as it is so hot I can't do much at one time and travel 260 miles to get there.
Hope that we get a large group for the show and don't forget that they do have a none judge ticket price "CALLED SHOW & SHINE"with no judging but you park in the show area.
