Where can I find a hitch for my 83 EC? Preferably a cheap one. I don't need a humongous one as I only want to pull my boat out of the water and a mile home on level streets. Nothing very taxing.

I bought mine from a regular truck accessories store---just walked in and the next day came back and picked it up---it bolted on nice and easy, was built by Reese ... There were several to choose from too depending on the load range to be towed................Dan

If you're referring to a Class I hitch, I am not aware of a custom made Class I for a 5th Gen Camino. All you need is a generic bumper drill and bolt type. Should be easy to find. They're also easy to fabricate.

A custom Class III box hitch is different. Fortunately you don't need one as you said. They haven't made them in years, but one may still find it on the internet if they looked hard. I found a new one in an internet supply house a few months ago.

Take care.

I don't need anything big. The hitch load will only be 200 pounds and I wont be going over 30mph for the entire mile or so, on residential streets. The load is 8,000 pounds but its almost level to my storage place. I just need to haul it once a year before hurricane season and put it on dry land till after the season. In a mile I will only be climbing 20 feet to where I park it.

Tongue weight is only half of it. You may still need a Class III. Plus, your bumper won't handle tugging 8,000 pounds. Reference:

Take care.

Sorry, I jumped the gun. 8,000 lbs is a lot of weight. A lot. You need bigger than a Class III! In fact, you could easily damage your tranny, blow your U-joints, etc. Plus, you won't have good enough brakes to stop it.

My recommendation, pay someone to move it for you. :-)

Take care.

Its not going to be pulling by the bumper. I want a hitch connected to the frame.

The engine and tranny can take it at 10 mph and only a mile to go. I am not going on a cross country run!

I was in the same boat

I wanted a hitch that was unnoticeable and didn't detract from the elkys looks. I couldn't find what I wanted so like everything else, I made one. It also provides the benefit of adding some crash protection since I replaced the bumper with a fiberglass roll pan. It stiffened up the frame a little too. Best part is I just pull the reciever pin, slide the hitch out and it all disappears! I made it so it mounts to the original holes on the frame where the OEM bumper mounts.

Just in case you can't find what your'e looking for, this might give you some alternate ideas.

Good luck.

That looks very similar to what I am doing. I am getting a 5"x5" piece of angle iron and bolting it to the side of the rear frame rail so that I have a flat surface to bolt the hitch to. The hitch was made for a vehicle with a narrower frame than the El Camino. The only difference in mine is that it dips down to clear the fuel tank by 2" The end of the receiver will be right at the bumper face so, like yours will be almost invisible when no hitch is in it.
