I am looking for a third brake light for a 5th gen. I would like to find one like the one on the 4th car down on pg 10 (link below) of Lauren Engineerings site. It fits between the glass and the roof rail chrome strips. Anybody got any ideas where they got that? The thought of just sticking one on the glass with double sided tape - JC Whitney 14.99 is not something I am ready to accept just yet.

Thanks. I decided to go with the roof mount. I measured and the others are too wide to fit right between the chrome strips.

This is the option I went with from Ron Francis

I just came across a 1987 Elcamino that appears to have a FACTORY 3rd Brake light...... Was this a Factory Installed or possibly dealer installed ..... I dont ever recall seeing one with this light...

That was after market. The factory installed brake lights began appearing in 88-89.
I went with the brakelighter on this site;

Its been on inside upper windowmfor 2 years and with only suction cups has not fallen off. If it does,I will glue it.

Not a great shot, but I took a Blazer LED third brake light, readily available in any junkyard, removed the LED strip from the lense and mounted it over my license plate. Cost is minimal.

Neil I know a guy that make and markets a third brake lite that is adjustable to any angle is mde of billit with super show quailty milling. I would say it is 1" by 6" +or + pedestal mount or flush mount. But he is very proud of them like $250 to 300. have a min computer to set up the different ways it can blink.

Did you wire it as just a 3rd brake light or with turn signal flashers too? Where is the brake light switch to tap into? Thanks

Tap into the white wire at the brake light switch to run a third brake light.

If you get a brake light switch off a GM car that has a third brake light, it will have an accomodation for a third brake light wire to go hot.

You don,t need another switch. Either splice directly into existing brake light switch -bypasses signal lights-, oruse an adapter for 3rd brake lights to tap in at taillights. adapters run about 15 to 20$ at trailer supply places. OR you may find a cheap adjustable pedistal interior mount 3rd light kit with this same adapter at a local auto parts store forless $. Street rod & even semi truck supply places have aselection of aftermarket lights that may work for someone.:secret:

I mounted 2 aftermarket 3rd brakelights, each a row of red LEDs in the rear section of my overhead unit that came out of a 1998 Blazer. I used a brake light switch out of a 1960's GM car in the second mounting location above the original brake light switch on the brake pedal. I guess it was for the cruise control.
I cannot get a good pic since my camera phone is not the best.
