Hi and greetings from Finland! :-D
I'm new to this forum and turned to you guys because I've got a little problem. I'm currently planning quite a massive project and what I'll probably need to start it, is 1973-1977 El Camino. To make long story short, the whole idea is to strip the Camino apart, shorten the chassis frame and discard the original body and use AC Cobra replica body instead ... The problem is, there is no shortage of 4th generation El Caminos in Finland, but what I absolutely need is _original_ Big Block El Camino and that's more difficult to find around here.
Some of you may think: "that's insane, why do it the hard way?" Answer to this is simple: Finnish automotive legislation!! I need a "donor car" of which 50% of the parts have to be original after the body has been swapped... :-( I calculated some percentage and my dream of a big block Cobra cannot be fulfilled unless I use original big block car as donor car.
Now, I don't want to strip down a beautiful, fully restored, El Camino. So the question is: what is the availability of restorable 4th generation El Caminos (with big block) in United States and what is the price range?
Of course...there is another way. If someone knows where to get reproduction VIN-plates for El Camino, then I might be able to use regular Camino with Big Block VIN-plate installed, to fool the Finnish Government :-D :-D
Anyway, at the moment my project is on planning state, we shall see if it ever moves forward...damn those stupid laws
