I have a 160 amp alternator on the 87 elky. Check out the photo. Is the 15.5 Volts seem a little high? All the electrical accessories like the voltage, but I don't want to burn anything up. Is there a way to adjust to voltage?

If nothing else, I think you might cook your battery. I think max should be 14.5 volts, but I'm not sure. There is an alternator shop in town we went once, but I don't remember what street it was on, or the name of it, but it was close to MCAS. Check your Yellow Pages, they will have to do something with the regulator.

I would get a good meter and measure the voltge coming from the alternator rather than relying on that gauge. 14.7 should be the max voltage output with no load. 16 volts will cook your battery on short order.
Get it checked, if it's actually that high get the regulator repaired or replaced.

Jive 65 nailed it on the noggin :) I would get a good meter and measure the voltge coming from the alternator rather than relying on that gauge.
The voltage on the control module for the F/I was showing 13.9-14.0 volts. I wasn't sure if it regulated the incoming voltage or not. I took a reading off the battery and alternator last night and there appears to be a 2 volt difference between the actual system voltage and the autometer guage.
Thanks for the help :-)
