Well, I've given in to the evil forces and purchased a 71 Ranchero. It's really not in bad shape, the body's in better shape than my elky, better interior, recent engine/tranny swap (now has 351C and floor shift C6). The only main problem is that the front susp. bushings are shot. I paid 900 for it, so I figure it was a pretty decent deal. Besides, I've been kicking around the idea of restoring my 70 Torino and this would be a good donor car (it has most of the body parts I need in decent condition).
As a result, I'll need to sell my 71 Elky. I hate to do it, but money doesn't grow on trees, and I've already got too many projects... It's a decent daily driver/project car. Solid frame, all glass is good, engine is a 350 w/ 160K miles, starts, runs and drives good, doesn't smoke. 2.73 posi rear. brand new Performer intake and Holley 4 barrel 600cfm carb, 350TH shifts smooth, new U-joints, new water pump, new dual exhaust (one muffler blew out from a backfire and the donut gaskets that connect the manifolds to the pipes are shot. it sounds worse than it really is... a set of headers and $40 at a muffler shop would fix that), 3 new tires: 235/60/15 on newish style rallye wheels (like what's on 5th gen Elkys) rear, 215/75/14 on steel stock wheels on the front. 4 wheel drums... the car was in pretty much unmolested, stock condition before I put the intake/carb and exhaust on. Interior need some attention, seat needs recovering, headliner torn in one spot. Exterior is fair... body damage to front fenders, doors, hood, grille, bumper, dent in driver's side rear corner of the bed, and a dent in the tailgate. Some surface rust from vynil top. The truck came from the factory with a camper, so the inside of the bed is in great condition. I would like to get some of my investment back out of the car, but mainly, I just want to be able to recoup the cost of the Ranchero and suspension parts I need. I've got a total of around $2500 into the car, so I figure somewhere around $1750-2000 would be a reasonable price, but that's negotiable. I'm in the North Dallas area (Coit Road and 190), home: (972) 713-9246 e-mail: bdean1@ti.com if anyone is interested... I don't yet have pics of it in it's current condition, I'll try to get some pics after the holiday. If anyone would like to come by and take a look at it, just gimme a shout.
