had 1 site tell me ihave a 229 and the other says 231. can anyone refer me to a rilaable site for my 83. thanks :?

8th digit is 9 you have 229. 8th gigit is A you have 231. in your vin number

thanks i have a 229.why did they put an engine with such a small difference in .planning on replacing mine put want to stay with a 6 cylinder any suggestions.

two completely different engines. if you are going to stay with a v-6, i'd be checking into the 4.3. heard some good things about them but don't know what would be involved. it is a chevy so it shouldn't be that hard.

thanks for the input.i will check into that tomorrow i got to go look at an 85 ss. so not sure wether to try and restore both or use 1 as a donner

229 is chevy with rear dist. 231 is buick with front distributor
