Could be any # of things, Bad fuel pump, vapor lock, or I would guess a faulty oxygen sensor. Jon

You may have a clogged catilatic converter. A good way to check is to put a vacume guage on the intake and run engine for a couple minutes at 12 to 15 hun rpms. If the guage starts droping after a little bit you have a clogged exaust.
Just a shot in the dark, but It will cause a power loss.

I would check the basics first. like the fuel "filter" and pump.
hope this helps.

I had a car (not an elky) that acted like that when the fuel pump was about to go.

I had the same problem on my '77 el camino 3 months ago, while driving it would sputter, then shut off. i would try to start it right away again, sometimes it would start, sometimes i had to wait a bit.. it eventually stranded me on my way to work.. ended up being the ICM (ignition control module) under the distributor cap. Hope this helps, -Chad
