: Fifth gen crew cab

I'm getting tired of trying to squeeze people into the cab of my fifth gen and a couple of my diesel buddies gave me a great idea. Build it up like their rigs; put a crew cab behind it.

I took the idea a step further:
Jack up the body and throw some monster suspension parts under it
Put some 22" IROC-Z reproduction rims (ebay) on it with rubber-band tires
Convert the rear to a dually with fender flares
Brush guards
Diamond plate bumpers
4" chrome stacks
Step-side saddlebag fuel tanks

Basically... imagine a Fifth gen and a Semi/F650 having a baby, and there you go.

First thing is first though, a 4 door El Camino - Obvious choice would be to weld a elco butt onto a chopped Malibu chassis. I have a few ideas on how to do it, but I'm wondering if anyone had any ideas on the best way to execute this from a design standpoint.

Any ideas or feedback? Let me know!

I like the trade of the suicide doors for the duallys.

Uh... Uhm... 8O Yes. That. Exactly.

I wish those pics were clearer, who made that one?

8) I do not know who built it. I remembered it being posted in a thread a long time ago and the pictures are in the 4th gen. gallery on the same page as my pictures. ECC Member a73elkyss is who posted the album, so maybe he can tell you where the pictures came from.

That El Camino was built by a guy in New Hampshire in 1999 for the Hot Rod Power Tour East. That was the first time I saw it. The pictures that PaPa Johns 77 posted were from 2003 when the guy was trying to sell it. I spoke to him in 99 and he told me that he took a Malibu station wagon and grafted the bed of an Elky onto it.

There are a couple of other pictures in the original thread. Here is a link to it.

I'm usually against butchering Elky's, but that just sounds cool! Go for it. Just one more thing... Bag it and lay the frame! do we have any photoshop experts on here?

Exactly where would you park such a King Cruck? We see 3/4 ton, king duallies and they have to pull up onto the sidewalk to get out of the street.

Not a terrible idea I suppose and it does have a certain customizer appeal, but all in all the quote occurs, "Better ye than me".

Take care.

Here in Australia Holden build the Ute as a 4 door and call it the Crewman. Take a look at their web site.

The existing model is based on the previous generation Commodore and I am not too sure if they intend producing the new model which is out in the next few months, as a Crewman.

Now, I gotta ask..bag it and lay the frame? What does that mean exactly?

And yeah, I want to see someone photoshop it for me :D

Parking would be a concern for me, but the vehicle is going to be basically a rolling ad for my (not yet formed) company which specializes in gasoline to diesel conversions, with intentions to run the vehicles on biodiesel. The target consumer being those who own (or wish to own) classic muscle cars who may want to go a little greener with their big-blocks. You can still make 1000HP, but now you can do it on nearly free fuel which just happens to be better for the environment.

My hope is to make it somewhere in the area of a full ton vehicle, capable of hauling a fifth wheel car carrier or camper trailer.

With such capabilities and being a rolling advertisement.. I'm not sure when I'll have time to have it parked.

Awesome vehic. I might do something similar, as far as the door proportions.

The El CaMalibu in the earlier post just looks kind of off.

One of the things that makes a fifth gen elco a fifth gen is the fact that the doors are like 8ft long. The short Malibu doors look odd.

I might not even make it a 4 door, just an extended cab, there's enough space with those huge doors to slide into a second row.

Any thoughts?

Your intended use as a corporate advertisement and demo model completely changes ones perspective. Actual day to day practicality may not be relevant. Most typical considerations may be out.

If it helps your business grow, that's enough. Gopher it. It will be fun to watch you create it.

Take care.

Here's another idea for more seating- cut out the back window and the front section of the bed, and put in more seats on the floor pan where they would have been in a malibu. That's what I'm planning on doing when I turn my parts car into a 4x4.

Here's a 69 done like that:
