I just received a new grill for my '71 GMC Sprint. Since it's gray plastic, I need some painting advice. I need to know which parts/areas do I paint?

There is an area below the fins (#1) that runs all around the fins. The chrome clips on above that. I'm not sure if the grill I removed is the original so it may not be much help but that #1 area was painted(?) gray or was left gray. Did anyone paint that section black? How did it look?

I'm pretty sure area #2 is painted the same color as the body of the car. (at least it was on the original grill) This is the part of the grill that tucks under the front bumper. Has anyone painted that section black? How does it look?

I borrowed the picture from the El Camino Store. Since I bought the grill from them, I hope they don't mind. :)
