Well............ I have a 77. Show quality, shaved, black, and when it was done, I wanted classic license plates.

On the blue form you send to Columbus, you get six choices. My first, of course was 77 elky. I came up with five others and sent the form in.

I received a call for a nice lady at the DMV (go figure) and she told me all my choices were taken. She suggested "Elky 77", which I took and am still using.

During our converstation, I asked her "there can't be many of these" and she said, "yes, there are thousands licensed in Ohio".

How about that? Where are they all?

I'm in Cincinnati and we have the Cavalcade of Customs coming up the last weekend of January. I'm considering showing. Come on down.

regards to all members,

margoekly

Well, how about WV? That's part of 8 as well. I live in mostly in VA but my Elky lives mostly in WV.

On the other hand, the Eastern Panhandle in WV is closer to Washington, DC than to Ohio. The Panhandle is strange. With Sen. Robert Byrd moving the entire Federal Government out there piece by piece and a number of high-tech companies there as well, mixed in with the still rural atmosphere, you get something like the Dukes of Hazard and K St. run into one.

Hey all, Dayton Oh. here. I have requested to be the Region Director. If you would like to organize something in your area let me know. Right now I am in the process of setting up a meet in the Dayton area for the First Ohio ECC Cruise in. Would you be interested in comming? we could make this big if we have enough people interested. I am putting out fliers to all the cruise ins I go to so all vehicles will be welcome, I am planning to rope off an area for ECC members and anyone wanting to join. What do you all think give me some responses.

Thanks
Dan

Hey Mike I will be emailing all the ones you sent me. Thanks.

Elky77
06-14-2004, 09:17 PM
You're welcome Dan. I'm glad that my efforts produced someone willing to step up. I think it's worthwhile, El Camino's rule!

What are the details about the cruise-in? Is there a car show, or are we the car show? You mentioned "rope-off area". Is that at a show? If there is an on-going event, it's much easier to draw participants. Just like the swap meet that we all toured two weeks ago.

Keep us informed and I'm sure I'll be there. Maybe I can get the wife out of bed to join me.

Thanks again,

Elky77

landen, ohio about 5 minutes from kings island. classix auto (http://classixauto.com/) recyclers currently has about seven 5th gen elkys, two or three 2nd and 3rd gen elkys, and one 4th gen. also has a couple g-body malibus. steve(owner) deals in general motors only. on my last visit i got a hood, front bumper, lower quarters, header panel, and core support all for mine, cost me like $180 or so. not too bad of a price.

You justed missed a meet in Dayton today. There's a two day show at the Expo Center.

Only three of us made the trip, but the show was really worth it.

We will be trying to get another meet together soon. There's the Pumpkin Run in Cincinnati this October.

Let us know if your interested in getting together,

Yo, Shawn,

Welcome back, where you been?

Dan and I have emailed and talked about another Springfield Car and Parts Ohio Swap Meet tour with any members who can make it. He's supposed to send emails to the group.

It's the weekend of May 26th to 28th at the Clark County Fairgrounds.

What do you think? Can you and your brother make it?

Anybody else interested? Springfield, Ohio, northeast of Dayton.

I must say as far as the body goes she is pretty solid in the front end, but the bottom of the doors are rusty and above the wheel wells in the rear. Runs like crap and I don't think I can get it to pass an E-Check to save my life. What am I getting myself into, anyhooo enough babbling, Im from Medina Ohio, to the west of Akron. Anyone with suggestions as to where to begin would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and Cheers Brian

I'm here on the North west side of Cincinnati, just inside the 275 belt at Colerain.
My '69 is in the garage on a rotisserie and I'll be taking delivery of a worn out '79 some time this month.
My good friend owns Classix Auto recycler out in Sharonville and he's an El Camino owner himself. He specializes in old Chevy parts used and new.
Anyone want to see the project get with me and stop by on a week end my garage is a place of wonder.

Holy cow this thread started way back in 2003! I'm a native of Xenia & Springfield area but currently stationed in the AF up in North Dakota. I will be retiring next summer & will probably be moving back to the Wright-Patterson AFB area and looking forward to it! Not many Elky owners up here in ND so looking forward to hooking up with Region 8! Still have lots of family back in the great buckeye state. I thought I checked in here almost 2 years ago when I bought the 78 for my daughter. Guess not.:dontknow:

South Amherst, Lorain County, Ohio here.
1978 Elky, Two tone blue with white vinyl top. 350/350. My daughter named him "Cooper".
Cooper is getting patches in the floor pans, rear quarter patch panels, interior color change from lt.blue to dk. blue and new paint this summer. He's also asking for a rear roll pan and LED tails if time and $$ allow. In August, he'll hopefully be joining Samantha at college in Valdosta, Ga.

Anyone in the area who wants to get together and talk cars, work on cars, etc., just PM me. I do automotive wiring and AC on the side, so If anyone close around needs help, just holler. (No, I don't actually have two heads, I really do like doing electrical work )

Not exactly Northeast, but there's the Super Chevy Show at Summit Motorsports Park (Norwalk Raceway Park) this weekend. All Chevy racing , vendors and a big swap meet. It was great last year. It would be well worth the trip.

Hello from Toledo, one Elky to others.. I've recently purchased a 65 Camino from Calif. all numbers matching, 283cuin. , with the good old "Three on the Tree"! Very clean right down to the orig. wheels and hub-caps, and 66k miles.. Really looking for this snow to leave so I can re-live this driving experience. I had a 73 SS bought way back in 79, Ohio winters wasn't too kind to that one. Looking to visit the local shows, interested in seeing the responses to this very original ride. I also show my 30 Model A Ford street-rod. Would like to hook-up with other Elky owners in this area.. Well, hope to hear from area owners...Don't know how to put pics on here, yet..

Well Hello from Toledo. I have a 65 Elky, all original , numbers matching, sweet ride. Mine is a 283, 2bl, 3 speed (on the tree). You are right , there aren't too many Ohioan's on hear. I've just started this year on this site, it's great, interesting readings.. I searched for sometime and finally found this Camino from Calif. I also have a 30 Model "A" street-rod, with a Chevy 383 stroker mtr. to go fast in, this Elky is smooth in comparison.. Hope to hear more from Ohio and others, enjoy..

I thought that I responded to this thread along time ago, but I guess not. I live really close to Lake Erie in Huron, Ohio. That's about 10 miles east of Cedar Point.

I haven't lived in Columbus since I graduated in '75. It seemed to me that most were down toward Grove City or way out east. I have a friend in Columbus that works for Rifes. If you send me your email by PM, I'll ask him to let you know. He's been in Columbus a long time and knows where parts can be found.

Go Bucks!

Badger, In recent years high scrap prices have prompted yards to clear out mega-tons of older vehicles. A local yard used to have cars back to the 30s, but now nothing more than 10-12 years old. Older stuff goes straight to the compacter.

Moyers in Crestline, Ohio used to keep "old" cars until they were picked pretty clean. It's a huge yard so they had the room. I don't know if they also cleaned out during the scrap price boom, though.
It's worth a phone call at least. It's the only junk yard that I've ever seen that has a State Route running through the middle of it!

My buddy had a body shop (1993-97 ish) and we would hook up the trailer to get to Moyers before they opened. We would grab one of the yard guys, head off in his yard truck and make much of a day with Dude slicing off quarter panels, roofs, doors etc. Then we'd make a cruise of the "old vehicle" section to see if there was anything needed for a resto. I once found 2 nice inner fenders for my 69 Merc. Marauder. (basically got them for nothing, see below).

Back then, on a haul like that, we tipped the yard guy $30 for the day and offered some illicit smoking substance if he desired, for his trouble. Then we went to see Sonny (the mostly retired, Mr. Moyer) for a price on our haul. We then went to the counter and told them "Sonny said $xxx". On my inner fenders, Sonny said "Aww Hell, that car has been here for years. Gimme $15 in cash for lunch"!!! I gave him $30 and resisted the urge to kiss the old goat! They were unavailable otherwise.

I'm sure Sonny is gone now and things have changed some, but they might have some Elkys hanging around.
Good luck in your search.

As a reward for his recent service at "an undisclosed location" with the Air National Guard, please respond to Matty Man's call to get this Ohio event firmed up soon. It's been a long time since Ohio members got together. Happy 4th of July!
