: Bad driver...NO donuts
87ElCamino 09-06-2007, 07:10 PM Do a donut in California and lose your car? What a weird state!!
California Legislature Revives Car Seizure Law
http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/19/1951.asp
PaPa Johns 77 09-06-2007, 07:48 PM 8) Here just peeling out as we used to call it back in the day will get you a reckless driving ticket and it is up to the charging officer whether or not they impound your car! Now I will say they usually won't have it towed unless you were doing a big hairy burnout, but it will cosy about 600 bucks to get your car back. And if was your kid driving moms car it still costs you to get it back. To be honest, it is all about the revenue generated by the fees! They just boasted in the paper about how much money the city took in since implimenting the law! The towing company which is under contract to the city gets 100 for the towing plus the storage. If you called to have them tow a car for you it is 40-50 bucks anywhere in the area! Talk about a racket. An impounded motorcycle is like 350 bucks + towing and storage and if you ever see some of these guys haul a bike you would be ready to kill the guy!
randy78 11-01-2007, 08:42 PM over here the only way to get your car can get impounded is if drugs are found in the vehicle, or you have no insurance
or sometimes dwi/dui
california crazy wow
the new illegally modified car crushing thing out there is pretty crazy too
i saw some pics and stories regarding the rice burner modified cars in the crusher out there that they have impounded
california is like a whole different country haha
1BadElky 11-01-2007, 09:27 PM 8O Well, I'm not gonna peel off anymore on the streets.
theelcaminofactory 11-02-2007, 12:16 AM To be honest, it is all about the revenue generated by the fees! You got it...you see municipalities pass laws so that they can generate income so the members of that governing body can vote themselves pay raises...now if they passed something like higher real estate taxes or higher sales taxes, that effects all their constitutes, and the next time they come up for re-election...well, they probably wouldn't get re-elected...but if they pass laws that only effect a minority...nobody complains but a few. Increase the tax on a bottle of wine or a six-pack...who cares? Increasing cigarette taxes is another example...whose going to complain accept us evil smokers, not the non-smokers...you don't think the state and local government really care about our health...do you? Impound my car and sell it off at a police auction and the money goes to the city...that'll draw a crowd of protesters at city hall on my behalf...yeah right! (rant rant rant...who cares?)
hemi57 11-02-2007, 08:58 PM Here in Victoria Australia, we have "Hoon" laws. Spin your wheels, screech your tyres and they can impound your vehicle for 48 hours on the first offence. Second offence is something like 30 days and third offence vehicle is seized and never to be returned. It is like a police state here.
mgs72elky 11-02-2007, 09:06 PM Wow, My Elk would have been 'Hooned' right out of existence.
74 chick 06-15-2009, 10:13 PM If they weren't so buzy :blahblah: passing these kind of bills, they may be able to pass a bouget.:laughing4: I've got a bill for them, Bill Number :321: No more passing dumb bills bill.
nitroxracer78 06-15-2009, 11:38 PM Yeah, I have gotten tickets for burning out in my old minivan. Which was really funny, but I just got a ticket because I guess it was a noise violation. As far as I can tell.
California is crazy with laws, but seems like decent weather.
PaPa Johns 77 06-16-2009, 06:47 AM You did notice that this post was almost a year and a half old?:yell:
dabayelco 06-16-2009, 10:29 AM ive never seen this thread and i live in california!! but yeah california's laws suck. im pretty sure there is a law for everything. and this law originated in oakland (thats where all the dangerous "sideshows" basically started) and people have gotten seriously hurt. i live in the bay area and theres red-light cameras everywhere!!! each ticket is around $500 and eaach branch prosesses several THOUSAND a day!! they generate sooooooooo much money so i dont think they are that they passed the donught law for more $$ but idk the governator really has no clue what he is doing :redxrobot:
Tuggy24g 06-16-2009, 11:46 AM Since we are all chiming in the laws Then what Philadelphia has is if they see a car with no tags on it or if you just bought it and the paper in the window fell off you get your car towed. If you are at a meter and it is over the limit you get a ticket and they have cars that will drive down and check every meter every hour. I got like 10 tickets just by staying at a mater that was over the limit. Damm philly cops
nitroxracer78 06-16-2009, 12:48 PM Didn't even notice the time stamps.
Meters are rough.
ElkyHolik87 06-16-2009, 03:08 PM Being a southern Califonian I can say yes the laws do suck. BUT it's not to often you see police Specialy on the freeway... depending on your city.
No one likes to race on the street's accept the punk ricers and there ALWAYS geting pulled over. But get on the freeway and every one becomes a speed racer, I kid you not. Any one who wanted to race me was on the freeway and theres been quite a few. This is why I want to build my elky to be a "freeway runner" But no one wants to race me on the streets, I guess my elky sounds too mean for them.
There use to be this spot here where people from many many cities would come and race, in the wee hours of every weekend night. Out in the out skirts of LA in the city of Ontario it's a huge industrial area. close to 100 cars or so some times.
That was put to a stop buy the police. They had police as far as San Diego come down and pull off a big crack down. One night they impounded every car on site and arested EVERY ONE that was there racing or not and slaped them with illegal street raceing charges and who knows what else.
Here are some laws
Illegal Street Racing http://www.teamsheriffracing.com/2006/templates/rhuk_solarflare_ii/images/pdf_button.png (http://javascript<b></b>:void(0))http://www.teamsheriffracing.com/2006/templates/rhuk_solarflare_ii/images/printButton.png (http://javascript<b></b>:void(0))http://www.teamsheriffracing.com/2006/templates/rhuk_solarflare_ii/images/emailButton.png (http://javascript<b></b>:void(0))
http://www.teamsheriffracing.com/images/Team_Photos/Street_racing/street%20race.jpg
Illegal Street Racing may be a "quick rush" but it is illegal and deadly. A few seconds of fun may lead to serious injury or death to you, your passengers, or an innocent bystander. It may also lead to criminal prosecution, jail time, and hefty fines.
Law enforcement agencies in California will enforce all applicable laws relating to illegal street racing.
http://www.teamsheriffracing.com/images/Team_Photos/Street_racing/jail-sm.jpg
A first conviction on a street racing violation (23109 VC) means:
Minimum county jail sentence of 24 hours and maximum of 90 days.
Vehicle probably impounded for at least 30 days.
Owner responsible for vehicle's towing and storage charges ($1,000 or more).
If owner fails to pay, vehicle could be sold at a lien sale.
Anyone who aids or abets a street race also faces a maximum 90-day jail sentence.
This is just for street racing. If someone crashes, and someone is injured or killed, you could be arrested and charged with Reckless Driving or Manslaughter. In addition, many agencies and municipalities are enacting law to make simply being at a street race a convictable offense. Many are also seizing and crushing vehicles impounded at street races. What does this mean? This means that if you are at a street race, driving or not, you can be arrested and your vehicle impounded, seized, and crushed. If your vehicle is financed, you are still responsible for the payments, regardless of whether your vehicle was seized or not. This means you make payments on a crushed car!
Here are some vehicle code sections that pertain to mechanical violations commonly found on street racing vehicles. This is NOT an exhaustive list, and does NOT include every single section of the vehicle code that may or may not apply. It is merely a reference. Be sure to check with the California Vehicle Code, your local Department of Motor Vehicles, local California Highway Patrol station, or local police or sheriff's department. Make sure your vehicle is street-legal and in compliance with the law!
License Plates
No Front License Plate (5200 VC). Vehicle must have a license plate permanently attached to the front.
Lack of white rear license plate light (24601 VC). It must illuminate the license plate, not project light behind the vehicle.
Lighted license plate frames (unless red) (24003 VC).
Lighting Equipment
Blue and yellow headlights (24011 VC). Headlights must be white - blue and yellow are illegal. Look for the DOT symbol on the bulb and package.
Headlights brighter or higher wattage than those from the factory (24011 VC). You may be able to see better, but the lights are illegal.
Tail lights other than red (24600 VC).
Illegal brake lights (24603 VC). Brake lights on vehicles newer than 1979 must be red. (Vehicles older than 1979 may be red or yellow.)
Lack of rear reflectors (24607 VC). Two red reflectors are required on the rear of cars and trucks.
Incorrect color of turn signal (24953 VC). It must be white or yellow to the front, red or yellow to the rear.
Red lights to the front (24003 VC). They are illegal except on emergency vehicles.
Tail lights that incorporate a bulb with a red tint or coating. In general, custom tail lights that incorporate a clear outer shell and red inner lens are legal (24011 VC). If they don't incorporate reflectors, they must be added to the vehicle (24607 VC).
Tail lights that are too dim, washed out or show yellow, white or other colors (24600 VC).
Illegal color of side marker lights (25106, 24003 VC). If present, must be yellow in the front and red in the rear.
Driving with just parking lights on (24800 VC). Vehicles that have factory-installed automatic daytime running lights must meet federal requirements and are legal.
Illegal decorative lights (24003 VC). All flashing decorative lights are illegal (25250 VC). This includes neon lighting.
Illegal windshield washer nozzle lights (25106 VC, 24003 VC). Only white or yellow are allowed.
Lights attached to tire valves (24003, 25250 VC).
Lighted license plate frames (unless red) (24003 VC).
Illegal lights, whether or not they are operating. It is illegal just to have them on the vehicle (24003 VC).
Engine Modifications
Illegal engine modifications. Most are illegal due to smog (27156 VC). See Air Resources Board Website (http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/amquery.php) for more info and list of parts that are legal.
Excessively noisy exhaust systems and mufflers (27150, 27151 VC). Many aftermarket exhaust systems and parts are illegal. Look for parts that meet California law. If it doesn't say it meets the law, it probably doesn't!
Exhaust systems which meet smog requirements but are still too loud. Exhaust equipment that states it is, "Legal in all 50 states," refers to smog, not noise.
Note: New law (27150.2 VC) does not require law enforcement to use sound level meters to test for excessive noise. Citation is based on officer's judgment. Cited violators may have testing done at smog referee stations or may be directed by the court to have testing done. Vehicles in violation must be brought into compliance. A fine may also be imposed.
Once shes on the road again you could catch me screeching out of corners and burning rubber.
glhman222 07-10-2009, 01:16 PM f*** california, im never going there

Bryan59EC 07-24-2009, 09:57 AM :whatsthat: Take it easy little guy. What are you bad mouthing my state for???
In your defence EH87, someone whom has not lived there really does not have a legitimate reason for bashing your state.
ME, on the otherhand-----A NATIVE of so.Ca.. Altho I went to school in another state, I did make the mistake of moving back to Ca not once, but twice. Most ridiculous moves I have EVER made.
Other places I have lived include--Idaho, Utah, Az., Texas.
All of these are states where one is allowed to live life as he sees fit----Ca., certainly does not fit into this catagory.
Kinda sucks too------I would love to live in the 5-cities area (an area I am very familiar with), but screwey Ca laws, politics, political correctness, cannot be considered a place with my best interests heart. Specifically, the freedom to live my life as I see fit.
Magus 07-24-2009, 01:15 PM Seems like the birthplace of hotrodding is also it's grave. Looks like any vehicle modification is illegal. I don't know how you guys being car enthusiast can deal with that. I mean no offense to anyone who lives there of course this is just what I have observed. Granted I don't like street racing just to make sure no one gets confused.
old timer 11-23-2009, 03:49 PM well guys, you know the old saying, as california goes, so goes the nation. :let_it_all_out:
samjudi 11-23-2009, 04:58 PM All this sounds like a good reason to move to the West Coast of Florida. We don't call it the "Best Coast" for nothing. Having said that, most of us have too much invested in our rides to be doing the 'Kiddy' stuff.
Some kid wanted to know how fast my '79 Vette would go. I just said, 'fast enough'.
Maybe I am getting old????
Sam
Mikey215 02-27-2010, 09:34 AM I was born and raised in upstate N.Y. drag raced, circle track raced, belonged to a couple different car clubs, got married the first time:poke:,mistake, got married again, started to raise a family, and opened my own business(auto shop). Then in 1990, we decided to start a new life in Florida. Bought a house, raised three kids(good kids) started doing foster care and adopted two sisters. So we now have a 15yr old and an 8 yr old. I'm still the same person, I just changed the location of being that person. The person makes the home not the other way around. You also get used to the rules, and when they get too stupid, YOU MOVE !! :nanawrench::beer:................................ ....mickey-d
OldChevysNeverDie 02-27-2010, 10:59 AM Talk about anal. We just has two guys at work suspended for doing a burnout in front of the quard shack. One may be fired. Not a fun place any more.
WaterDawg 02-27-2010, 05:32 PM I. You also get used to the rules, and when they get too stupid, YOU MOVE !!....................................mickey-d
Agreed. Another reason to prevent Federalization of the States.
My Constitution likes cars...
steelybill 02-27-2010, 11:17 PM I suspect that at some point all states will have inspections of some sort. Federal mandating of those would be bad for hot rodders.
The country has enough on it's plate right now, so it's not likely in the foreseeable future.
CoyoteOn2 02-27-2010, 11:37 PM Wish the Commander in Chief felt that way. Not trying for a political debate, but the Track Record so far does not look Hopeful. :dontknow:
Mikey215 02-28-2010, 07:41 AM If our current administration had half a brain, they would be arrested for smuggling horse crap !!! :dontknow::twisted:
TreyKwondo 03-08-2010, 10:42 AM My little 3.8 was never strong enough to even burn out , so i wouldnt have had to worry about it.
But this little 4.3 im puttin in , its pretty strong..
El Road 03-10-2010, 12:06 PM Wow, stupid laws and stupid politicians. I'd much rather live in southern FL anyway and even more so now. The question now is whether or not to move back permanently to TX or to FL.
steelybill 03-10-2010, 10:51 PM When I was a young guy, our state (MI) didn't have speed limits except in cities and towns, and their outskirts, etc. Going from one small town to another was a 120 MPH trip! And we did it all the time. The thing is, traffic was sparse in those days, and so were cops. And the cops back then were not like they are today, especially sheriff deputy types with ego problems.
But things changed over the years as more cars were on the roads, and more wrecks etc.
And every teen-ager didn't have a car back then either, so the old man's car caught hell on Saturday nights!!:smileyb:
Trouble is, what happens in Calif. doesn't stay there! The crap roll East across the amber waves of grain.
leogexx 03-27-2010, 06:50 PM Our cops do as little as possible in my small town , which is lucky for me as I do tend to spin my tires on a regular basis . California sounds like its got some pretty strict rules which is to bad as it looks like a beautiful place.
rangomr 03-27-2010, 07:39 PM That's kool you also have a 80 Caballero, I grew up over the hills from San Franciso, before Calif really got big in POP> and that was in 1954, today, perhaps northern Calif. would be a good place to live or around Tahoe, but still too many people for me, that's why I left in 67 and moved to Montana for the next 28 years. THAT's a beautiful state, well one third is the western part, from Kasispell, jMissoula and the Bitteroot Valley. soryy I got carried away. Michael
