ok we have an 85 elky ss it is black and silver

we have found many odd things about it

i need to know pages with info and codes and anything at all to help us

we are currently sanding down the car for new paint the body is solid it is from texas and it is good but the paint is beat from sun baking and so on

it has had some repaint work on the rear body in the past even though the original old man owner we got it from claims none was ever done, he also called it a 69 el camino, he owned it since it was new, he livedin texas in which si where he bought it back in 85 as per the title

we need to know what type of paint they used in mexico in 1985 on these

need to know if all of the rear quarters were punched with the six holes for the exterior side rails even if they were not installed(the holes were filled in/covered at factory ??)
when did a car get them and when didnt they ?
it wasnt an SS thing ?
it was a separately available option ?
factory?
or dealer ?
when i search on the net for 85 elky SS i see that most of them have the bed rails

did all the 1985 SS models have SS decals on the doors ??

if so where at on the doors exactly ?

on the lower in the silver part?
or just above the body mid line ??

where do you buy new clips that hold the bed perimeter chrome pieces on ?

the black side bumper trim pieces on the doors
the black pastic pieces in them why are they about 4 inches shorter than the frames they sit in that are riveted to the doors ?
are they all like this ?
or do they shrink ?

the black painted metal vertical divider bar that separates the rear door glass edge from the little quarter window,
are they all the same from 78-87 ?

where can we find a dark red upper door panel,
we have one missing

what about lowers ?
some idiot cut speaker holes in ours

we are now done with rebuilding and reinstalling the original 305 it is now .030 over and completely brand new(i reassembled it after the machine shop work and fired it up for the first time last week)

J. the vin code wont work on the IL DMV site for some reason it is 3GCCW8OHOFS919126

ther eis no body plate on the cowl or anywhere else it is missing ? these tags have the paint and seat and interior codes and such

but this car has no such plate
did they not install them in 85 ?



a friend is doing the body work,
i am not a body man at all
but he doesnt have internet haha
so here i am


the wheels he repainted already now, and the seat is new re-upholstered
and it is getitng sanded down right now as i type this haha

8) Hey Randy! A) base coat clear coat was used. B) No the holes were put in when the bed rails were installed, I believe it was a dealer installed option.
