I have a 1980 Elky and I am getting rid of my 229. which some where around 300,000 miles on it, for a 350. I was wondering what parts could I reuse and what can't I. This car is my daily driver so I need to get this done in a weekend. Do you think this is reasonable?

The only parts I'd suggest that you re-use is the starter. Everything else is actually designed for the 305 and will hurt the performance of the 350. No kidding. THe intake manafold is inadiquit and so are the heads and the Car is too small.

All that said you can use most of the parts if you want, they will fit. You'll be breathing 305 with a 350 motor but it will run. Don't use the Flywheel or the damper off the 305 they are inadiquit.

You should be able to pull the engine and put it back in in a weekend. Which was probably last weekend?

the amin thing i can think of when going from v6 to v8 would be the motor mounts they would probably have to be moved i know there's a bunch of different holes in the frame to mount them in different locations for the different motors. They can be a PITA to move since the other side of the bolts are behind the LCA's it can be done with them on but it is a lot easier with them off.

He's asking about a 229 to a 350 swap. Anyways, pretty much nothing from a 229 will bolt onto a 350. You'll have to change some wiring cons.,the front springs, mounts, and all the accessory brackets(p/s brackets, alt. brackets,ect.). The p/s pump and possibly the alt. will be the only things you can reuse. It would be optimum if you could get either a V8 parts car or a 350 with all the brackets and such attached.

Is that like roaster fighting? Throw a V8 on top of a V6 and let them duke it out  Anyways, yes a 400 will fit in the frame. Hell you can cram a 454 in it if you got the patience and money.
