Hey there, I have an 85 elky with 305, ccc (compter command control), and rochester e4me (tps sensor / mixture control silenoid), the truck/car is throwing a code 44 (lean signal at oxy. sensor). Any diag. master wrenches would SURELY be appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

What else can you tell us about the current condition of the engine? Does it idle OK? Part throttle acceleration and cruise?

As far as the current condition of the eninge, it seems to be idling pretty smoothly (there could be a slight miss). When I reset the code the acceleration is very good, then after a few minutes when i step on the gas it seems to fall on its face and then catch up slowly and very underpowered. After this happens the check engine light is on at all times. Thanks for your interest!

How old is your 02 sensor? Maybe it needs to be replaced if you cannot find any vaccum leaks.

I put in a new O2 sensor because it was pretty cheap and easy to do, I went along the intake, carb base, air horn, etc. gaskets with throttle body cleaner and could not find a vaccum leak. Reset the SES light with the new O2 and ran pretty well but I don't think the oxygen sensor is lying because it was burn-your-eyes lean. After running for a while the code returned. Thinking that the engine needs more fuel I checked the fuel pump (seemed to be flowing strong), checked the fuel filter (clean) and adjusted the curb idle mixture screws. I started 3 turns out and then upped it 1 turn at a time until I got to about 7, up to 6 the idle was getting better (smoother/stronger). The only problem with all of this is that the exhaust still smelled lean (burn-your-eyes). I attempted to test the duty cycle on the mc solenoid but I'm not really sure how to do that. The accelerator pump squirts strong. The carb has signs of already being rebuilt. Any suggestions of where to go next? Thank you all who are reading this!!
