I am curious as to why some of you have the nickname(site name) that you do. Mine is easy- Tommy is because its my real name. Post the reason for your name.

acauth1 is my real name! "acauth1" = "Robert Colin More" how's that work? Actually I've always been curious about that one!

From now on I'd like to be called Delux. :P

If you stick around long enough, you'll figure out who everyone is

acauth1

acauth1 = A/C Authority....have used it some ten years now.

Poncho Villa
12-10-2003, 06:31 PM
Poncho - Pontiac fan
Villa - first five letters of my last name
Pancho Villa - Mexican revoluntionary

And it was more fun for me than just plain old Rick.

12-10-2003, 06:47 PM
theelcaminofactory....elcaminocentral wasn't available, somebody already had it. :) Actually I've had it for about a year before El Camino Central started. Plan was to restore them and sell them as a small business venture/hobby. Temporarily placed on hold due to the 2 Trans Ams that have to be finished first for the kids.

vega_guy_76
12-11-2003, 02:07 AM
Simply put, I've got my name because of the love of my first car. A 1976 Chevy Vega. Hence the '76' and the "Vega' part of the name. The 'guy' part coming from, uh, well you know.

Gozer
12-11-2003, 05:30 AM
'Gozer' from 'Gozer the Gozarian' (Ghostbusters ref - seemed like a good idea at the time when I claimed it for a custom plate - all the truly good tags were taken :D ). By the time it was getting dated everyone already linked it with me, so I left it that way.

Been in the computer industry since '83, started using it when Gore built the internet. Too many logons and passwords to change now. :?

dabobbers
12-11-2003, 06:04 AM
Last name is Bober, pronounced like sober as a judge, only with a B. I've been called Bobber, as in fishing bobber, all my life. Friends called out, The Bobber's, thus Dabobbers.

Kansascamino
12-11-2003, 06:49 AM
I drive an 85 El Camino with Iowa plates, it was bought new in Iowa been in the family all it's life and I live in Kansas so I had to be the kansascamino with the Iowa El Camino. My Father owned it before me and has all of 36,000 orignal miles and still has the factory paint and interior. Still looks and runs like the day it left the show room floor.

coollw
12-11-2003, 08:39 AM
8) When I got my '82 Elky, obviously everyone thought I looked so cool in it, except my wife. I just added my initials to the tag the end. My son's initials are the same, and the kids at school have taken to calling him "coollw", much to his displeasure.

ElkyPete
12-11-2003, 09:02 AM
Most that know me call me "Pete" another nick name that has absoultly nothing to do with my real given name. Vernon R. Engstrom Jr. Yes Jr. My father called me "Pete" all my life so it stuck. So I have 3 El Caminos, had two of them when I came up with the name "ElkyPete" for ChevyTalk and it carried over to El Camino Central.

I'll answer to most anything. I also figured it was better than "Sir Pete the Mighty One!" well, shorter anyway. :D

highwaysignpost
12-11-2003, 12:08 PM
curious, Highway69 was asking me this same question not to long ago-good topic.

My name stems from high school days. A friend and I had this habit of being at the right place at the right time to help someone out. used to happen all the time by some weird coincidence. so we started saying it's like being a signpost on someone elses highway. Hence Highwaysignpost--you may not always need one but it's nice to know they're there

(I was wondering if Gozer was a Ghostbuster reference)

Snuffy
12-11-2003, 12:22 PM
Don't ask me how it started but my friends in high school came up with names for everybody. Originally it was Snuffulufigus. The guy of Sesame Street. It got shortened to Snuffy.

Highway69
12-11-2003, 04:02 PM
Too easy... El Camino is Spanish for "The Highway"; and 69 was a very good year, as well as a playful number. ;) Not too much imagination required here

Caveman49
12-13-2003, 07:39 PM
Always interesting, picked up Caveman driving truck over the road in the seventies, and then was part of the Caveman flight platoon in the Army flying Blackhawks with the 82nd, thus the callsign Caveman49 :)
It's not because my knuckles drag the ground, that I've got a sloped forehead and banana breath!

PROSOUTH
12-17-2003, 07:12 PM
PROSOUTH, I've had it since I started online with my first computer.

It's pretty well as stated. I'm from Tennessee and I love the South. To be for something is to be PRO ( also a politically correct term)

The South has never been known for being politically correct about anything, so I became PRO South.

BTW, I've never been politically correct, lol Jim

Sneaky Pete was my CB handle in my musician-touring the countryside-years. We had a truck and people van with radios to keep in touch. I resurrected it for this site. The license plate on my SS is "SS 3LP" which is a play on the SS 396 legend, as the car is my "SS", my company is "3L" and the "P" is me!

Cold, Is that all we are going to get?
Condensed version:
It was something that I was called after many heated exchanges. Then the person emailed me so I set up the screen name on my AOL account and emailed them back as that name they called me. They are the Newman to my Seinfeld, the Joker to my Batman, the ying to my yang.

I guess I'm a very up front person. I don't hide my feelings. So if I don't like you,I'm not going to BS you and pretend to be nice. I'll be very "cold" and unfriendly.

BTW,AOL wouldn't let me use the correct spelling so I dropped the A in the middle and it worked. So I'm not a spelling idiot just to clear that up. This is going back 3 or 4 years. So I just kept it.

Nailhead
03-07-2004, 09:21 AM
No it has nothing to do with the movie "Hellraiser." It was a tribute to my first real collector car, (which I still own and love) a 1965 Buick Riviera, which has a Wildcat 445 "Nailhead" engine.

(Not that I didn't have several of what are NOW collector cars growing up. Back then they were called JUNK before I pulled them out of the salvage yard and resurrected them. 1955 Bel-Air 2 door sedan (1st Car), 1965 Mustang 2+2 fastback, 1966 GTO. And, no, I didn't have sense enough to hold on to any of these. :-( Actually the only one of these I wouldn't mind having back is the '66 GTO. Just something about those 4 speeds... :D )

WarPony
03-10-2004, 09:42 PM
Mine came from a movie called "Powwow Highway". The main character, named Gilbert, bought a car from a used car dealer to go to a powwow in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. A wisecracking friend asked Gilbert if that was his $hitbox out front. Gilbert said, "That's my War Pony".

That's my '73....a real good Indian car!

eighty_five_el_camino, most names are self explanitory, I use something like mine so I can't be looked up in the phone book!!!

and for Michael in Mississippi, I used to run for B and S Trucking out of Moss Point, Ms. Pulled out of Laurel MANY times. Dad is from Pachuta.

F9zDark
03-13-2004, 01:53 PM
F9zDark - I have had this name for quite a while because my one hobby was always computers and computer games. So I have used it for a long time because I like to play computer games online. I lead a clan for Medal of Honor Allied Assualt called Force NINE. Hence the F9z infront of Dark.

I have only recently, in the last 3 years or so, have had an interest in cars because now I can afford them :D. Owning crappy and old import cars as first ones isn't a good place to realize how much you enjoy working on cars now is it? Once I picked up my 65 Catalina and now my 77 El Camino I have been able to say that I like to work on cars.

Maddening
08-04-2006, 03:29 AM
Who's gravediggin up old threads? Well, it's cool, this one I never saw, it's neat.

Maddening is simple really. I was playing online back when I first got into online gaming, in like what, '85? Needed a spooky game name to go along with all the killing, hunting and hiding that goes on in games, so this is what I came up with. I wasn't into any forums or anything else at the time, heck, I don't think there were really any forums really, just BBS's and usenet at the time. Anyhoo, when the time came to start joining forums in like '97 or '98 I just stuck with the name I knew. Pretty much everywhere I go I use this name. I really should try to be creative and pick a new name someday I guess, but meh... oh well.

Quintonsdusty
08-04-2006, 03:44 AM
Quintonsdusty is the formal name that I gave to a pure breed dog that I used to have. It was a combination of the community that we live in and the dog's nickname, "Dusty." My El Camino is about the same color as "Dusty." :)[img]

His mom asked him which one PaPa Casper or PaPa John, from that point on I became PaPa John to those three grandsons! So added the s to show possesion and the 77 for the Elky Year and thus PaPa Johns 77!

08-04-2006, 12:20 PM
:banana2: In my schooldays one of my buddys discovered a likeness between me and Tigger (you know Tigger like Tigger in the hundred acre wood!) since I supposedly had a kinda jumpy walkingstyle across the schoolyard 8O !! He used Tigger as a nickname for me :screwy: and of course introduced me to everyone as Tigger! It stuck with me and I ,of course, didn't mind that since the chicks loved it  !!!

I've always loved El Caminos, so hence CaminoTigger :driving: !!

Anyway, it's Friday night here in Norway right now so........ CHEERS!!!!

CANTED
08-04-2006, 04:43 PM
Thanks go to Tommy, interesting old thread. I'd say most get it, but for those who don't. "Introduced with a 396 cubic inch displacement, bore and stroke measured 4.094 x 3.760 in. But the big news was valve arrangement. Instead of placing all the valves in a row as was done with it's small block predecessor, Chevy engineers CANTED both the intake and exhaust valves for improved breathing. Performance people lovingly refer to the big-block Chevy as the porcupine or rat motor. It was an instant winner" Tom Wilson.

I can't remember if I ever posted on this on way back when I was a regular...

A barking spider is another name for a fart, kinda like saying you stepped on a frog... you say damn those barking spiders

.... I'm "the Barking Spider"

Or you could say that I named myself after my dog. His name is Spider...and he barks....

Lady Camino

64SS427
08-05-2006, 01:50 PM
I've always had a fascination of the early big block cars, specifically the SS396 and SS427s. They were the biggest baddest cars you could go buy off the local dealer's lot and haul a$$ with. My car is a conversion, since GM didn't make an SS EL Camino until 68. The equivalent of that was the El Camino Custom is 64, which mine is. It included all the same options as the SS chevelle, but at that time SS cars could be had with any engine in the lineup, even a 230 6 cyl. Throughout the time I've had my car I have tried to do things as though it had been a factory BB car, with the addition of then-current touches like finned valve covers and an aftermarket intake. In the last 10 years I've been through a 396, 427 and most recently a 454. I still prefer the legend of the L-88 427, so I;ll stick with 64SS427.

I have an unpronouncable last name: Kuczajda
I was christened with the nickname Kujo in basic training because no one could pronounce it, and that's what I 've been called for over 20 years in the military.
El = The, so I figure it's spanish for "The Kujo"

Picked up my moniker while racing my Regal T-type----I overheard a dude in a 69 corvette say he wasn't coming back to that track anymore because he was tired of getting beat by that old coot (me) I had sent him home about seven or eight times at that point---so anyway I have been "that old coot" inside our group ever since so when I started joining these forums I just kept it..................Dan

For years now I have always had more than one El Camino. A few years back I bought an 83 SS that was shall we say "a little rough around the edges" I used that somewhat rough car for a couple of years.......Dont worry we will move that stuff with the ElDawgg.........It just stuck......Car is gone....but the name stuck

65 = 1965
Rice = import
Eater = Fast Elky

65RiceEater = Fast Elky that requires wood screws in the imports doors so they don't blow off when I dust them.

CraigDaModeler......I am NOT a model......I build model cars! DaModeler, 'cause dats da way we talk down here in 'Nawlins, La.!!!

Here are a couple Camino models I built. It happens that I have another 68 on the bench right now. Hit a major building slump just before the hurricane event last year and am just now getting back to it. I'll be glad to post some photos of that Camino project if anyone is interested.
