I just purchased a 74 El Camino I got it in SC but I am having trouble getting a tag because its so old and the NC system does not recognize it so I have had to have a Inspector come out. The only vin we found was on the dash and he said that there has to be 2 identifing vins where else do I look or get this info from?

First of all, the inspector should know where to look, they should have that info but he might be to lazy to research it.

They don't use the complete VIN on the hidden ones, its a derivative. If I know your VIN I could tell you exactly what to look for. But this example will have to do;

13K123456 Typical
1 - GM Division Code, 1 for Chevy and 5 for GMC
3 - Model year
K - Final assembly plant code (varies)
123456 - are the last 6 digits of your VIN and this all must match. Note-Small errors have been known to have been found because these were stamped by humans.

FRAME
Make take a long time, you have to play CSI detective.

BODY
Typically there are hidden by parts, look behind the under hood heater area meaning you have to dismantle it. You might also find on on the top of the cowl (WW area) some place but again, you will likely have to remove trim etc. (Don't have a photo of one of those)

These are not easy to find by the amateur because the idea was to make it that way.
