I picked up a stock 70 GM (AM) radio to install in my SS dash but I can't figure out how to install it. When I bought the car there was an aftermarket radio installed so I don't know which bracket(s) are needed. I purchased a radio bracket which was suppose to work on a 70 but it doesn't seem right. How may brackets are used to secure the radio? Can someone tell me where I can find a diagram showing how the radio should be installed? I have a few GM manuals but I can't find this information anywhere.

Thanks for your help.

There is a L shaped bracket that bolts to the side of the radio and goes to the metal bar below the radio. The bar is part of the dash structure. I wish I had a pic, maybe in the assembly manual? The screwgoes up from the bottom.

Bowtie70SS,

Thanks for the reply. The bracket you mentioned, is it mounted on the right hand side of the radio? How many brackets are used to secure the radio? I have a photo of the bracket I'm using but I don't know how to attach it to the thread. I attempted to mount the radio using the above mentioned attaching point but the radio didn't seem secure.

Thanks again for your help.

I just went and looked...there are 2 screws that hold the bracket to the dash. One from underneath and one that comes in from the back where the point of the screw points at you. There should be a speed nut directly behind the ashtray. If you remove the ashtray you should be able to see it.
