Jus' t wondering, are the stainless tubes that come out of the exhaust manifolds for the emissions reproduced?
I checked around online and Autozone had a part # avaiable,
when I went to the local zone the part # came up discontinued or something.
Do I have to go the dealer for this part. I only need the driver side, piece.

Would opgi sell these. I could not find them on there website and don't have
a catalog. Later

Check out: Rock Auto - Delco Parts (http://www.rockauto.com)

Do the catalog search process Make>Year>Model>, etc.

the AIR tubes on mine had holes in the when i bought it, but rather than replace it i pulled the injector pump off, and plugged the holes in the manifold. depending on the year, the people inspecting it wont even know it came with the air injector. plus you get a few extra hp.

Try your local dealer I just bought air tubes for my 74 from chevrolet dealer last year . I think they may have to make them available until what ever year it is, is no longer smog checked.

Motorbreth, did the removal of the A.I.R. tubes and injector pump have a detrimental effect on emissions test results?

I just ended up going to a family(owned) auto parts store. They stocked the a.i.r tubes on the shelf.Ain't gonna find em' at no autozone, neither .Manufactured by KEM ($21) part # 160-414 and,#160-415 (forgot which # for which side, though) for 86MCSS.My old driver side was cut up,so I removed it before the motor was installed what a PITA still.
Anyway just to follow up there installed and ready for mufflers now.

plus you get a few extra hp.

How? Certainly not from the tiny amount of parasitic drag the pump causes.

I'm assuming that the converter has an AIR tube as well. If that's the case, the AIR going to the manifolds are only in use during open loop, since they are prior to the oxygen sensor. They really have no effect on emissions other than help the convertor to heat up intially (light off).

I went with a modern AIR-tubeless converter and still passed IM-240 emissions in IL. Since the AIR pump serves no purpose with this converter, I removed it. The benefit is less crowded engine compartment. No significant power gain or weight savings.

The new tubes are certainly cheaper than a new converter thought. :)

When I bought my '81 in Seattle the previous owner had removed the air pump, AIR tubes and all emissions plumbing. In order to get it smogged & registered here in CA I had to replace all the missing emissions equipment. After putting the air pump & AIR tubes back on, ( I got 'em in a junkyard for about $30) I noticed an immediate reduction in MPG and felt that I had definitely lost some HP. I can not be certain of it, but I sure do think that my Elky has less HP than before. I KNOW the mpg went from 17-18 down to 14.

I can certainly believe it if one thing wrong happened. If it's pumping thru the air tubes during closed loop, it would throw the O2 sensor way lean, which will cuase the ECM to go full rich - no power, poor MPG.

If it's working correctly, and pumping where it should, when it should, there is no way it can hurt performance or fuel mileage. It's just pumping air into the exhaust.

Next time you have the belts off, try spinning each of the accessories. You'll see the pump freewheels compared to the others.

WE DONT HAVE "EMMISIONS TESTING" HERE, SO I WOULDNT KNOW. SORRY I POSTED THAT ONE TWICE... OOOPS
