ElkySS 12-17-2003, 06:30 AM We've had a couple of posts about this over a year ago, but I just read a thread that mentioned that a member was retired Army.
How many ECC members ever served in the military? How many retired military?
I'm retired Navy reserve. Spent 13 years on active duty and another 13 years in the reserves.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all military personnel, past, present and future. Well done!

Poltergeist 12-17-2003, 07:52 PM I was in the Navy for 6 years.
greywolf 12-17-2003, 08:17 PM Navy for me -- 11yr actived duty and 15 reserve. In a couple years that retired pay will kick in and I can get serious about a rebuild--though I kinda enjoy the junkyard shopping bit now.
BTW, this ain't off the topic in the general BS forum--nothing is. That's what makes it general BS. ;-)
spoonplugger 12-17-2003, 10:06 PM I put 4 years in the Coast Guard. Discharged in 66.
Tommy 12-18-2003, 04:06 AM I am still a active duty Msgt(E7) in the NC Air NAtional Guard. I have been in the Guard since 82 & active duty since 86. I will be headed for the dessert again probadly around Feburday.
Orfunauto 12-18-2003, 07:46 PM Four years, three months active Air Force. Twelve years and counting Air Force Civilian.
22 years 9 months of USAF service. Retired in 1993
Scrubby 12-19-2003, 04:07 AM Retired after 20+ in the US Coast Guard. Over 10 years at sea, the rest on dry land. During that time I worked in Law Enforcement, Drug Interdiction, Hatian repatriation ( taking them back home before they reached our shores. :D I'd do it all over again.
John Harris 12-19-2003, 06:16 AM Four years and two months in the U.S. Air Force Security Service 1964-68. Served over two years in Northern Japan intercepting Russian military communications. Got frustrated and didn't re-enlist after fighter planes from our base -- heavily armed with cameras only -- got ordered to turn back while trying to intervene during the U.S.S. Pueblo crisis. Loved that job, the people I served with, and the nation of Japan.

Kansascamino 07-18-2004, 05:35 PM There are probably a thousand retired guys that would be more than happy to go in your place if we could Tommy!
spoonplugger 07-18-2004, 08:42 PM Tommy, when you are in the desert, will you be able to log in and keep us informed how you are doing? Best of luck to you, good luck, thanks for your service and let freedom ring.
Dusty82 07-19-2004, 08:42 AM Nine years Army, and three more in the National Guard. Wife did 11 years in the Army and is still in the Guard.
CYA over there, Tommy. We're behind you, man. I know sometimes it seems like people back here just don't give a rotund rodent's rectum about you people over there, but the vast majority of America is 100% behind you too. Those few who are even hesitant about that support are so self-absorbed, they wouldn't care about anything that didn't directly affect their good time right then and there anyway. They'd also be the first ones to come crying to you at the first sign of trouble. Go figure.
A sincere Thank You to ALL who have served. You folks are the best. And a special Thank You to the families of those who made the supreme sacrifice. Nobody could ever repay the debt we owe those Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coastguardsmen who never came home, nor their families.
theelcaminofactory 07-19-2004, 06:43 PM I think everyone should serve our country to learn respect for it...unfortunately the caliber of a lot of the people you would get today, would not be anywhere near what our all volunteer Armed Forces is now. As a prior US Navy recruiter, I only had one kid say he wanted to join to serve his country (prior to 9-11), most join for some other means. However, I think that most that either decide to leave or reenlist find a sense of pride in themselves, our country and what they've accomplished, that they probably would not have found had they not enlisted. I would not trade one minute of the the career I had for anything, I regret having to leave (down sizing during the Clinton administration). I had it pretty cushy aboard ship during Desert Storm among other missions, compared to the guys on the ground. I had been on the ground for short periods. I would consider spending months living in that desert equal to living in Hell! Tom, I wish you well, I hope you safely return ASAP along with all the rest of the members of our Armed Forces. My prayers are with you as with all our members of our Armed Forces. Always keep your head on a swivel and be safe man! Mike USN retired
Tommy 07-20-2004, 09:06 AM Thanks for the support, Guys. The home base I will be at should have internet support so I hope to pop it once in a while. We are lucky because even though our aircraft will be there for 2 years, We are able to rotate our crews for 90 day deployments. I am proud to do my part. I really salute the guys that are over there for up to 18 months at a time. Thanks to all you guys that do or did your part to make this counry safe!
doofus 07-20-2004, 11:44 AM man i had no idea that a lot of you guys were/are military! i am impressed.
Ive always wanted to serve, ive got 2 more years of college then i will most likely head off to the USMC. My Granddad was in europe for ww2 as an infantryman, and my dad went through the air force acadamy and served some time after that, and after hearing them talk of their experiences, and reading books of the sort (CHESTY PULLER haha), i think that this is an experience of a lifetime, and i look forward to it!!

As I've said before, it is a privilege to be associated with you good men.
God Bless You All.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
