****I posted this same message in another thread but it's important so I started a new thread****

Ok, This is important!

I got in the H4 conversion headlights from the El Camino Store part number is 03-2020.

They DO NOT fit a 74!

repeat...

They DO NOT fit a 74 headlight bucket! THe base of the headlight housing is too fat by about 1/8th of an inch and will not seat. There's a rubber grommet that can be removed from the unit but it still doesn't fit.

I have already emailed The El Camino Store about this and am awaiting a response. These are the right part numbers too. The electrical matched up too. I'm really disappointed about this. So be warned, those of you with 73 to 75's should just pass right by this product.

I don't think this is the El Camino Store's fault and they actually got it to me on Christmas Eve. I just think they never tried to fit them to a 74 before they placed the item in their catalog.

Ok, got a hold of the El Camino Store on Thursday and told them the problem. Initially they tried to say that the internet catalog was wrong and that's why the description failed to mention having to modify the buckets to make the lights fit. Well I told them I ordered from their latest printed catalog which specifically said they were a drop-in. I read the description verbatim to the guy on the phone and once he realized I was right he was more than happy to issue an RMA. So they are on their way back to Goleta, CA.

They made it right but they're a bit too quick to blame the customer. If I had known that "hacking" was involved instead of the "drop-in" procedure advertised I never would have bought them.

All's well that ends well though, just so long as my money comes back this week.

:D

I just don't see why it's so hard to make a conversion assembly that fits the stock headlight buckets. When you consider how many GM cars have that same setup it makes sense to make a part that fits. It's only an 1/8th of an inch circumference that needs to be accounted for. I looked at the construction of the unit and it doesn't need to be that fat at the base. THere's plenty of room to spare on the base. At the least they should either fix the dimensions of the part or give you a new bucket that fits the new light assembly. Even if it was offered as an separate part that would be ok. At least I wouldn't have to worry about mangling my original buckets for a headlight.
