I'm putting a set of Hooker Comp. Shorty Headers on the El and I was curious about shielding my nice new Taylor Plug Wires, in addition to the Oil Pressure and Coolant Temperature wires that also run down the side of the block.

Frying anything and everything that came close to my old Super Comp. Long Tubes was a serious issue when the car was on the road years ago, and I'm not looking to repeat history. Any pointers and part numbers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have full length headers and wrapped mine. I know all the arguments for and against but have never had any issues using wrap on headers. I also am using metal braided spark plug wires and have my sensor wires running through a heat sleeved wrap made by Vitek. So far so good, especially as hot as it gets here in South Florida

yeah a set of those sleeves is your best bet. those performance wires are usually to withstand higher temps than conventional wires but a set of sleeves won't hurt anyway.

If you take care in the routing of your wires, and they are the proper fitment, including ends, straight / 45's / 90's, or what I chose to use, multi angle, you should have be ok. Mine have brrn on now for 18 or so
months and not a problem with my Long tubes. If you wish to use the sleaves, you can get them from a speed shop or order them from Summitt or Jegs. They do come in your choice of colors if you want them to stand out or cordinate with something.

I've used these with success. Not one burnt wire. The reassurance it gave me was second to none considering I used them on my 4x4 and didn't want to get stranded anywhere secondary to something as simple as burnt wires.

Hey man... Wrap your headers.... I have Hooker headers on my El and they are all rusted (heat rust I guess) but anyways, that finish does not last apparently... I am going to have to wrap mine to avoid replaceing them right away. Also I would get a set of sleeves for the plugs, I am ordering a set this weekend!

It almost seems that for like 10 dollars more it'd be worth it just to get the sleeves for the whole wire rather than just the boot guards. But is it really necessary to get the entire wire sleeved? And will it fit in the looms still with the extra added layer of sleeving?

It's not necessary to sleeve the entire wire. If you had a sleeve the full length of the wire, they would not fit in the wire looms, guaranteed. It's difficult enough as it is to try to fit an aftermarket wire that is maybe 2mm larger than the original one, into a factory wire loom / holder.
