Camino80 12-24-2003, 03:34 PM My 1980 has been in the family off the showroom floor. My fatherinlaw purchased it new in Las Vegas. When he passed it was given to me. Highway69 12-26-2003, 11:08 AM I'm going to turn 50 (wow! :yell: ) this summer... 1969 (my El Camino's birth year) marked the end of the coolest decade in American history in so many different ways... so I'm partial to the cars and bikes from that era.

hobie1dog 12-28-2003, 09:20 AM I am 47, my first car was a gold 69 Elky(307 auto), followed by a screaming 350/4-speed, gold 69 Elky. got married, got 3rd 69 Elky 10 years later, sold it to best friend, just bought it back this year(for my son who is 24) and sinking my retirement into it.
Springer 12-30-2003, 12:30 AM Used to race a 62 Impala SS 409 at Pomona in 1963 when I was 20 years old. The headers were given to me by Gary Hooker because he used my car to build the jig to make more off of. After I won my class, S/S, (11.98, 115.90) was beaten by a half car length by Roland Leong, running a 63 Dodge 426. He won SS/A, and we were going for Street Eliminator. In those days the race was started by a flagman, and you raced heads up. Handicapping (for elimination brackets) was done by spotting the slower car a few feet in front of the starting line, no christmas tree! Those were the days! (I don't feel old, still like to get on my Harley and get it on!)

caindo 01-01-2004, 11:35 AM 19 in exactly one month. 4 cars already.. (****, its not my fault i swear) first ever car... 70.5 split bumper camaro fire red 327 built w/ 4spd traction bars the whole 9... sold it when i got done at age 17. had a cherry 73 elcamino seen on elcaminostore.com... its the light blue 73 with fatty cragers and skinnys up front (RIP sean grey) that car is no longer with us. then i purchased a 97 pontiac gtp and am an avid member of clubgp. cars pb is 13.97 with a 1.867 60' . its my daily driver and sleeper :) the 78 elcamino is my latest buy had for about 4-6 months now and is coming along real nice. pb is 14.8 with a 2.106 60' all motor. nitrous is on now, dunno what she'll do. so. i feel old already with 2 complete restos done and going for the 3rd. i love driving the el camino to work now and then and takin chicks to lunch and they're like, wow i love old cars, then i point out there isny any window cranks and point to the vise grips. then they ask wheres the grand prix at today :-P real men appreciate the good things, but we all must admit, getting into a car with power everything and gets good gas mileage (20 city 29-31 freeway) is nice every now and then. i need to get the blower on the elc so i can claim "supercharged vehicles only" in my driveway :-D
sdw55 01-03-2004, 12:16 PM I dont want to speak of age, it doesnt matter. You grow old, hopefully enjoy Your life, wife and cars, Feel Pain and hurt from laughter! the only game is to stay awake long enough to enjoy a lil foray! age is like a river, day by day it moves and grows older with the moonlight, but in the end when You wake up with the sun in Your eyes and stare out side its anew day shining bright just to show You the right, wrong and all the missrable mistakes You can make if You dont live life the way You want to!!!! the secret Iv'e found along long time ago is to just try to enjoy every moment You have weather hard times or good times and make the best out of nothing if need be. when you thank of it You are never out of school, for a person that does not learn is not alive make model and delivery date 1932 may 17th at 06:47 pm
Elky77 01-03-2004, 02:38 PM I was 30 years old when my 77 elky was made. I was 14 and bought a 37 chevy coupe in pieces. I wish I still had it!

I loved that bit of drag racing history! That was real neat thanks!
In 1963 I was only 11 but reading everything I could about hot rods! I would go out to Fremont Raceway hear in Northern California in the 60's to watch them race. Wow...1963 racing a Chevy 409 at Pomona along with the great names of the 60's! How cool is that! I tip my hat to you!
Dave
