I'm thinking about getting new crate 350, 330 hp and dropping it in my 79 El Camino. What kind of trasmission and rear end would work well together with a 350 like that? I would like an auto trannie with overdrive and a posi rear end. Where should I look for something like that? Any certain transmittions or rear ends you would reccommend?

For the "fun-factor" I'd go with a 86-88 Monte Carlo SS tranny and rear end. The tranny is a 200-4R and the rear end is 3.73:1. They should both live pretty well behind a 330 HP SBC. The only modifications you'd need to make is adding a bracket to the frame rail for the 200-4R crossmember.

yeah and overdrive w/ 3.73s is probably your best combo. you can find used posi carriers on ebay for pretty cheap.
