I am really considering getting a full painless wiring harness for my 70 elky. I was looking at the 18 circuit GM keyed column universal harness since the original musclecar harness is almost 200 more. Can anyone make some recommendations if this is a good route. Has anyone done one. Are they really bad or great. Let me know.

I have used them alot at my shop, as well as a few other brands. They are my Harness of choice when a customer asks which I'd use. Not to say one is better than the other, Painless is just the one I Prefer, others may prefer one of the other brands.

I rewired my 67 elcamino this winter with a 12 circuit painless wiring harness and had only one problem which i am still trying to figure out. When I have my foot on the brake and turn on the right directional the left brake light goes out. How ever if I turn on the left directional the right brake light stays on.

Tom, FIRST ~~~ Welcome
Second, With the issue your having on your light problem, most likley you have a grounding issue. Check and double check all grounds at all the light sockets for your turn and brake lights, (don't forget the front turn as well). Sometimes your ground wire will be ok but the ground from the socket to housing becomes weak / corroded.

This is a problem with your turn signal switch, not the wiring. Hope that helps.

No complaints with Painless - know of no better manufactured harness. IMO, better than OEM.
There are two or three areas that could be upgraded a little, but you'll need a custom or modified harness to get better. Very expensive and very, very few folks truly know how to do one right.
Take care.
