This last weekend i attended a 'Drift' event. Drifting is gaining popularity among a lot of the younger people - a course is setup where the object is to go around it as sideways as possible. The el co did good, a lot of people liked it. For some pics and reviews:

From http://www.streetrays.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=704&start=30

"Right behind the Castrol Syntec/Tom's clone Supra, the El Camino ruled all... I'm sorry, but laying a patch for 100+ feet all the way out to the first turn, then staying sideways with both rear tires ablaze for most of the course gets it pretty high in my book"

Pics and quote From http://www.streetrays.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=58

"JDM Rock Star! this El Camino kicked back all day long, real good suspension setup and good drifting, unbelievable. "

Had fun sliding it around. Something about el camino's that is just fun :-D

I attended one of those one time when I was into auto-x. It looked like it would be harder on the car than auto-x so I decided it wasn't for me.

8) Hey, I've been "drifting" for years, and here I didn't even know it had become a spectator sport. I recently "drifted" my 82 Elky right into a tree on a rainy day. It wasn't so cool, as I am replacing my drivers side door and quarter panel. The good news is that I got a new paint job out of it, and have taken the time to completely redo the interior, add a power antenna(so i can put on a car cover easily), provide a bedliner, and fine tune the motor. I also added new trim all the way around, and I'm working on rechroming the bumpers. Say, does anybody know of a good company to talk to about rechroming? I live near Nashville, TN, where I've only found one firm in N'ville(S&H Plating @ $525 per bumper) and the shipping is killing me to send them to Cali. Whoops, I tend to ramble on when I start into my 82 resto project :P .

Anyway, I've been a closet drifter for years, although there weren't too folks who shared my enthusiasm, namely my parents and the local constabulary. 8)

Never tried a game like that with this big car, probably be a handful. Always have to goose this big car a little to get out of the local dealership. It's like a right-hand U-turn from frontage road into the main drag. I have autocrossed with RX-2 and 1st gen RX-7--same principle for rear suspension and were very controllable sideways.
Now that I have matching springs front and rear, it might be something to try with the big ElCamino...

Try Tri City Plating (http://www.tricityplating.com). They're in Elizabethton which isn't too far from Nashville. I had the front and rear bumpers from my 72 redone there for $250 each. My rear bumper looked like a V from an accident when I took it in, and now it looks like new. They do great work, and bumpers are their specialty.

I like the idea of drifting. I think i will install a rip brake (hand brake not foot brake) in between my seats with the button taped down for fast reply on the brake. Time to cut the floor board!
