I put new wires, rotor and cap on my 87 305. I had the ignition module tested and it was good. I have spark at the coil and end of the plug wires. Still won't start. Anyone got any ideas before I have it towed to the shop?
Thanks

Pull a couple plugs. Are they black and wet or dry? If wet the eng. is flooded pull all the plugs , disconnect the fat pink wire at the dist. and crank the eng. about 10 sec. to blow any excess fuel out. Put in new plugs and if eng. starts see if the choke plate opens partially. If not you prob. need a new choke pulloff.

If the plugs are dry you're not getting any gas. Assuming the eng. is cold and the choke plate is open, when you push the gas pedal part way down the choke plate should flop closed. If the choke is closing ok hold it open and look down inside of the carb. and see if you get a shot of gas when you open the throttle. If not, you have other fuel line problems. Filter, pump, etc.

Make sure your batt. is fully charged. HEI dont like less than 9 volts while cranking. Post back if you,re still having trouble. Rick

Question ? Did it run prior to you changing out the parts you listed ? If NOT > you may have other problems, if YES > check what was suggested above, as well as your firing order > ( 18436572 ) as well as your timing if you had losened you Distributor.

If you're getting spark, then is the timing 180 deg. out?
Rotor installed 180 out
Distrib 180 out
Wires on the cap CCW instead of CW?

No fuel or flooded out?
If tailpipe doesn't smell like raw gas, then try a cap full or two down the carb.

If it does smell of raw gas, try cranking it over with the choke plate open and with wide open throttle.

If none of the above then I'd start looking inside the distrib for a wire that's incorrectly attached or grounded.

Then finally, I'd verify the cam hasn't jumped time.

Wait a minute. 87? Does that have electronic spark controlled distrib? My 87 Olds had that. If so, there could be something wrong with the ESC side of things. Showing any trouble codes?
