: Call for pictures of a 59 El Camino
LeoC2 02-04-2008, 10:44 PM Carlisle Events needs pictures of a perfect 1959 El Camino to be featured on the front cover of the 2009 All GM Nationals show book.
This is an incredible opportunity for one lucky owner to have his vehicle immortalized in print.
Here's what we need:
- The vehicle can be either stock or modified, it doesn't matter.
- The picture must be a high resolution image, at least 2 mega pixel
- The vehicle must be of show quality so start polishing.
- The picture background should preferably be solid so that the car can easily be extracted so it can be used on the cover. Busy backgrounds make for more difficult separation.
- Take pictures from all angles, especially 3/4 views
- Colorful cars are better, they prefer not to have black ones but if you have a black '59 that is exceptional I'm sure they won't say no.
- You can't be in the picture! Neither can your significant other, dog, cat, or pet Gecko.
You can post low resolution images in this forum and we'll contact you if any are of interest. You can also email them directly to me.
The deadline is this June 1. That's right, June 1, 2008. They start very early and want to have all finalized pictures ready for the SEMA show in November of 2008.
So as you can see, this is a really big deal and hopefully someone within our group will be the chosen. I say hopefully only because if no good pictures are submitted then the Carlisle people may be forced to look elsewhere for a picture and we don't want that do we?
By the way I've saved the best for last... The vehicle chosen will also be featured on all show flyers, post cards, announcements, and the official GM Nationals T-shirt! Here's a peek at the 2008 card that was distributed at SEMA

LeoC2 02-17-2008, 10:17 PM No takers yet? Do you really want them to find some stock photo somewhere? Come on now... anyone?
PunkRican 02-19-2008, 11:47 PM Leo, I recall two exceptional '59s were used in the 2007 calendar. Unfortunately one of them is black, but still very nice. The other is quite a cherry red, and also very nice. I looked them up and they belong to STR CR8Z and Dr59Elky, respectively. I believe these would serve as exemplary representations for the 1st gens. Perhaps you could try and contact them? Good luck.
Cabamino 02-23-2008, 09:24 PM I still remember THIS (http://elcaminocentral.com/ftopict-16274-.html) thread from back in 2006 by "narcoosee". This '59 was absolutely stunning. narcoosee only made 3 posts. He said he was in the Indianapolis area. Maybe someone has seen this red and white beauty, wish I would have saved some of the pictures.

LeoC2 02-23-2008, 09:44 PM I'm contacting all these people, hopefully someone will come through.
narcoosee 02-24-2008, 02:46 PM Leo,

Happy to help in any way I can.

Tom,
You're '59 would make a beautiful addition to the Carlisle stable in 2009. Are you planning on attending?

narcoosee 02-24-2008, 10:26 PM Jim,
I wasn't aware of the Carlisle show until Leo's message, so I may have to reconsider. With the 50th anniversary coming up, it would be great to get the Elky out. I'm planning an AMC roadtrip with the Gremlin this summer, so next year's roadtrip might be best spent with other Elky owners...

Quintonsdusty 02-25-2008, 08:10 PM That would be great Tom. I hope you can join us.
Leo has done some of the ground work with the Carlisle folks and others are coming on board to make this a fun celebration.

John Harris 04-09-2008, 09:04 PM To Dr59Elky and Narcoosee --
This opportunity is a really big deal if your car is selected. You should seriously consider having a professional or really talented friend take digital photos of your car in a location with good lighting and nothing distracting in the background. No reason you couldn't get superb shots for the Carlyle folks to work with for under $150 bucks. This is a cheap way to buy "immortality" for your Elky. If I was in your neighborhood I'd do it for you gratis, but you're too far away. I'll be lucky if my Elky makes it to Carlyle from New England. For some ideas, check out my album here in ECC. May the best ride get selected!
LeoC2 04-10-2008, 06:44 AM DR59, check your email, let's talk.
mnunn 06-18-2008, 04:28 PM This 50th @ Carslile opportunity has me VERY interested.
Penciled in at the moment, gas prices be damned. Thanks Leo (and others too no doubt) for doing the prelim leg work to make this a unique and wonderful event. I've already invited several from my area to come and will continue to prod as the days grow nearer. Never been to Carlisle for anything so this'll be a great thing for me all the way around. I'm also looking forward to seeing some really beautiful 1st Gens. Except for E-bag pictures, we here in Region 2 (me and the Mrs. at least) don't see many Gen 1's at all, let alone show quality ones. Beginning to think 1st Gen El Camino is a fantasy.
I agree with John about the show quality professional pics. Even if it goes no further, they make for a complimentary addition to the family phot album, will likely yield a good ROI should the car ever sell. Further, should a magazine want to pick up the opportunity, you won't have to scramble at the last minute to go get them taken.
Now, back to the 10 MPG and projected trip cost calculations........Hmmm.... 8O
LeoC2 06-18-2008, 05:26 PM FYI everyone... of the '59s submitted three are exceptional. It also so happens that they are red, white, and blue! So the Carlisle people have decided to use all three on the cover in a patriotic theme.
More info to come.
koolcaminokid13 10-04-2008, 03:03 PM although it is too late for this sugesstion, please concider this idea for next year or in years to come... Try looking on Cars.com or similar websites for Elkys in good condition. many of the pics on the site are probally good for the calendars. Many are also showroom quality with only minor fixes (little more polish...). although I am only 13 i love el caminos and seen some great examples around where I live (San Antonio...)
LeoC2 10-04-2008, 04:00 PM Thanks for the suggestion Steven and welcome to the site!
The reason we didn't go elsewhere for the pictures is that we wanted cars belonging to site members that we could actually have at Carlisle in June. This also allowed us to communicate directly with the owners to get permission to publish as well as background information.
Elkameno59 10-13-2008, 07:44 AM If I have to I will push the car to the Carlisle show it should be great. I know that working all winter and spring it will be worth it. "I may not be done but I'm having fun"
