My second El Camino, after the first '78 (with a brand new 305 HO) was rammed... by a Dodge Ram.

Good things happen though, my dad bought an SS project a while back and refused to sell it to me until Christmas, all new interior, custom sound system, and tons more.

He's also doing the complete rebuild of the 350 with matching numbers for this SS.

Suffice it to say, I'm stoked out of my mind.

Here's some things I found and was wondering if anyone had more information on.

1. dixiemontecarlo.com:

I found a lot of parts on here that are the same... or at least use the same pictures as the products listed on Laureneng.com, however, they seem to be much less expensive. Plus, they have a lot of stuff that laureneng.com doesn't have. Like custom door panels that hold 2, 5 1/2", speakers IN EACH DOOR. I'm a music enthusiast, so that's a pretty nifty idea to me.

2. I want to build this using master craftsmanship, as to make the BEST looking El Camino, inside and out. Are the parts you order from these sites ("Ground Effects"/"Side Skirts") easy to fit correctly, or do they require professional time... and money to have them done?

For whatever work I myself put in, it's going to be painstakingly handled and nothing will look half-assed, as I'm sure most of you are doing the same things.

So as a new member, I'd like to see what everyone else has been up to, feedback from which distributors sold better parts, etc...

I'll keep you posted with pictures of my new project too.

Hope to hear from everyone!

Ryan, good to see you posting, as I notice you have been here for a while.

Not a good story about your '78 but at least you sound like you are on track again on the El Camino "front".

Unfortunately I don't have any experience to answer your specific questions.

I look forward to seeing pics of your new project.
