I have the SS badge on the dash and after reading here that an SS has Z15 in the glove box list of options, I went and looked. I do have that. However mine has been repainted and has nothing on the outside with the exception of the Chevy emblem on the tailgate. All side/fender trim is gone. I do have the spoiler also.

My question is what made an SS an SS in 85?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

I recently inherited an 85 "SS" as well. I ran across an interesting post in a Chevelle forum that makes for a good read. Its about How To Spot an Genuine SS (http://www.chevelles.com/shop/ss_ident.html). Apparently after 1978 the SS was nothing more than a decal and a smile. I don't have much more than a dash decal either but some VIN databases do recognize it as a SS by the engine class, i.e. insurance databases. Hope this helps.
