I've got the option of buying a front end crash vortec 350 from a 96 camaro for $500...complete from tbi to headers. It is not running though, bent/broken pullys.

1) can it be fixed?

2) should it be fixed?

3) is the heads/intake/ceramic headers worth $500?

Are you sure there is anything wrong with the block???? worst case the crank might be bent and unusable---sounds like a lot of good parts for the price....................Dan

not a clue if anything is wrong with the block...he said, and i quote "most of the front acecories are broken and the timing cover is cracked....im not sure if you could get it to run again but you can take whatever wiring you want the computer too..."

what ever i want for $500. and he will pull the engine too...so, lay a list on me! i have no clue what parts i want other than the basic 3 or 4 things. -lol-

96 Camaro with a 350 would have been an LT1 and not a Vortec. Also, it would have been TPI and not TBI. Are you sure of the year here? I dont believe the Camaro ever came with a 350 TBI. They had 305 TBI's up till 92, then switched to the LT1 beginning in the 93 model year for V-8 cars.

LT1s after '93 used sequential fuel injection...SFI.

Well now you have me confused. If it is indeed a 96 Camaro with a 350 then it is an LT1. It will be sequential fuel injection, and yes it is still TPI. There are different types of TPI. For the price it is a good deal assuming the motor was not damaged. If you can get the whole drive line and computer with harness even better. Motor mounts and exhaust will interchange between Gen 1 and Gen 2 (LT1) blocks. Heads look similar but are different and cannot be interchanged due to the reverse cooling system on the LT1.

TPI (Tuned Port Injection) refers to the 305 and 350 engines used in Camaro and Corvettes from 85-91,92. The TPI has 8 round tube runners and can be disassembled. The LT1 is 1 piece. The TPI engines were bank to bank firing. Not SFI. Rick Edit forgot about the Firebirds
